Rear wall vents

I installed an amplifier on the rear wall this weekend and have been driving around without the rear seat so I have access to the crossover and volume settings. I also haven't reinstalled the rear carpet or whatever you'd call the cover. You don't notice it with the rear seat in place, or at least I didn't, but those rear air vents let in a ton of road noise. What have some of you done to quiet it down. I'm thinking a thick piece of foam between the rear mat and the vent might help and still allow air flow. I did a search, but I don't see this issue coming up, at least with any of the words I've used.

The foam is breathable, but it could restrict the air flow to some degree.

I usually run my A/C on recirculate anyway. That shuts the vent door in the front. But I turn off recirculate in the winter for the heater. I'll post negative results if it doesn't work right. That's for the replies.
