Amp help

Just looking for a little help as it's been quite a while since my last install.

Current set-up:

HU : Pioneer DEH-P2900MP
Speakers : Pioneer TS-A6882R (all around)

Nothing fancy - was a great deal at the time. I basically want to get more bass - nothing crazy, just something there for anything from country to rock to rap. I want to stay as reasonable as possible.

Should I:
Look at getting a 4 channel amp to power my rear speakers and a future sub?
Look at getting a 5 channel to power all speakers and a future sub (is it worth it to power the fronts?)

I don't really want to go with two amps. If I do whichever setup, am I correct to assume that I'll need an amp rated for RMS power @ 4ohms of 4xas close to 50w and 1xwhatever wattage where I'll choose a sub that will match it's ohm/rms output? I.e. 1x210 @ 4ohm so look for a sub that is rated for that? (Ex of 5 ch amp: KICKER ZX-700.5) Obviously if one recommends just amp rears I'd look for a 4 channel, bridge the two for the sub?

Am I on the right path? Also, is it worth it to buy items off ebay like hifonics just to skimp on cost? Or spend the extra to get something better, like kicker? And wiring kits... can I just buy a reg. kit off ebay rated for amp size?

Thanks in advance for the help

You'll want to power your fronts before the rear .The rear is only for rear fill , or you don't even have to use rear speakers . When you listen to a live band , do you turn around , so your back is facing the band ? I would get a 5 channel to run the entire system . You can fade down the rear speakers , when only front seat passengers are present . You can fade the rear speakers back in at any time , for rear seat passengers . I would stay away from the(Chinese made) Ebay wiring kits . They will say 4 gauge , but they actually have a real thick jacket and only 10 gauge wire .

x2!

I do like the KKR 700.5. It was murdering a set of Polk 6.5's and a KKR Comp 10 in a '08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It would have enough power to run those TSA's very well.

Alright thanks guys. So the 5 channel it is...

Tell me though, am I pushing too much watts to the speakers? The kicker rates at 70+ w rms whereas the speakers call for 50w. Should I downgrade to a amp pushing closer to 50w rms? And is Kicker THAT much better than a cheaper amp like hifonics? I'd assume yes...

Second, with it showing 210 Watts x 1 @ 4 Ohm I would want to find a sub that is as close to 210 @ 4, correct?

For wiring, I should be looking for 4 gauge with a 90A fuse?

Again, thanks in advance Just want to make sure I'm doing this right

All you have to do is turn the gain down on the amp so its not overpowering your door speakers. From what ive heard, hifonics over rates their power so your not gonna get the amount of power it says.

Yea you can get a sub thats around 210 watts at 4ohm, or you can get a single 2ohm or dual 4ohm sub and wire it at 2ohms so you get more power out of your amp.

If you want good quality wiring thats not that expensive checkout Knukonceptz.com, they have everything you need to hook up your system.

Ok thanks. So this sub here will work great with that amp? Or look for something different? I kinda like the l5/l7s but I'd imagine I'd need more power for them

And the wire here is perfect? (as in, I need to run 2 sets rcas to amp or just one?)

2 last things to make sure I've got it all figured out... which diagram shows the correct way to wire up the sub?

OR

And the 12 gauge speaker wire goes to all 4 speakers + sub or use 4 gauge for sub? Like I said... it's been a while I just want to have everything confirmed before I start Thanks again.

Yea that sub will work. Well if you like L5/L7's, the 10" L5 only needs 450 watts so you would be able to power it with the zx700.5.

I just asked Low about the same thing a while back, if you want all the fades to work properly your gonna need 4ch rcas (which come with that amp kit) and 2ch rcas (here)

The first setup looks right. 4 gauge is too big for the sub, you could get 10 gauge or 8 gauge for the sub. Here

But keep in mind , the gain is not a volume control .

Alright sounds good - thanks for the help all. I'm going to run with that set-up...

kicker 700.5 running to all 4 speakers and l5 or cvr 10" in a sm/med. ported box, running dual 4 ohm wired at 2 ohm. Wires from Knu, I'll probably bat the bottom and sides, and if I need to dynomat/raamat I'll do it later.

I guess if I overpower and blow the speakers I'll just have to upgrade

I'll update later with pictures if it turns out how I hope it does

Can someone confirm real quick that I can indeed run the speakers off the amp at 75w x4 @ 4 ohms and the sub at 420w x1 @ 2 ohms? As in, can the 5 channel push 4 ohms to speakers and 2 ohms to sub at the same time?

Just second guessing it... :o

EDIT: On pics it shows controls for "3" amps (amp1/2/sub) almost as if it's 3 amps in 1. Just confirming my setup. Thanks.

I was pretty sure it was 75x4 @ 2ohms.

Yes, it can run 4 to the spks and 2 to the sub.

That is also correct, it in a sense is 3 amps in 1.

Well I ended up going a slightly different way.

Amp: Kicker 400.1

Sub: ID10D4 v.3

Box: right now just a med. one - hope to build a custom one when it warms up

Wiring : 4 gauge Kicker amp kit, Kicker twisted RCAs & speaker cables

It took me a little longer than expected to hook up, but then again, I wanted to make sure it was done right the first time. Although I don't have the amp dialed in 100% yet (rained last night as I was finishing up) I can already tell this sub/amp combo is awesome and more than what I was hoping for.

Thanks to all who helped refresh my memory on getting everything setup right. It feels good to tear into the truck again and and do it myself vs. paying someone.

It is a great feeling, isnt it?

Those ID 10s are impressive. I like them.
