how much will an amp help?

I just purchased a pioneer 4000ub head unit, a 10" mtx jackhammer sub and some polk Audio db571 speakers

Originally i wasnt going to amp the speakers but figured if im tearing everything apart why not?

no ik the sub is rated for 200w rms and the speakers are rated for 60w rms

no im clueless to car audio but the head unit as i understand it puts out 4x50w

so would i gain that much by getting an amp to only gain 10 watts??

if so wat kind of amp should i be looking at to run both speakers and the sub??

Amp power and deck power is rated very differently. On an even playing field the deck power is more equivalent to about 10 watts of an amp. The deck will rate its power from 50Hz-20kHz at 5% THD while an amp will be like 20Hz-20KHz at 0.05% THD. So at the same power the deck will not be full freq and have 100x more distortion. An amp really makes speakers shine.

For the sub you WILL need an amp. No way will that deck run it.

thanx for the help...question 1.) wats THD (yes im a noob)

2.) i found a kicker KX200.2 amp...if i understand this correctly its a 100w x 2 channels at 2 ohms...so if you bridge the 2 channels it will be 200w x 1 channel at 4 ohms??

i have a 4 ohm sub rated at 200w rms so this setup should work out alright?? also is the kicker a good amp??

Kicker makes good amps.

THD = Total Harmonic Distortion
