Hifonics amps

how are the hifonics brutus amps? Im looking at either the BXI 1608 D http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=19581
or the BXI 1210D http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=20598

but why is the 1600 watt amp less expensive? and will it really put out 1600 watts at 1 ohm?

They are significantly overrated.

With amplifiers, there really is no way around "you get what you pay for."

i have a hifonics 2000w brutus powering 3 800w rms 10's and it does ok could be better but ok for being that i got it so cheap. but for the same price for one of those 1608's or 1210's you probally could find a better amp.

aite yeah thats what i thought... so do you know of any amps that truly put out 1000-1200 watts RMS that are around $300... what about the alpine v power 1000? http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...odel=MRP-M1000
it says it was rated a 600 watts rms at 4 ohms... any good?

AudioQue 1200D

249 shipped direct from the factory, does a true, actually underrated 1200 at 1 ohm. Great amp, 84 percent efficient so it doesn't put the hurt on stock electrical. I've got one myself. Quite small too.

wow this looks like the perfect amp for me. but i heard that you cant run an amp at 1 ohm or it will kill your battery. so the 84 percent efficient means it wont kill the battery?

Of the 100% of power in - 84% of it is put to worthwhile use.

Running at 1ohm will not kill your battery but will need more current to sustain the power. Therefore needing a higher amount of power.

Ha uh that's what we would call B.S. You can run any amp at any ohm load as long as the amp is stable at that load and your electrical can support the wattage.

84 percent efficiency just means its easier on a stock electrical than a less efficient amp. Turns the same amp draw into more power.

so wait does that mean i would have to get anything special to run the amp at 1ohm?

To run at 1 ohm, the amp only has to be able to handle it.

The lower the ohms, the more current an amp uses. Typical amps are configured to run at 4, 2, or sometimes 1 ohm or lower. Think of 0 ohms as a dead short, so an infinite amount of current is used. If an amp is rated for 4 ohms, but you throw a 2 ohm speaker on it, your going to make the amp indirectly use 2x the current its meant to handle. Most likely that would burn up the amplifier.

I have the Cadence iA7. These just came out, they do 1200w RMS @ 1ohm, and can be had for 279 shipped. Super compact, only 12" long.

I got it from Powermax Electronics, he is a great guy to deal with.

I like that amp but it says it only puts out 1000 watts at 1ohm not 1200
