Remote amps turn on wiring

My 2006 supercab has the factory 6-disc in-dash CD changer. I'm adding a sub and power amp. When I pulled the changer out of the dash, I found no remote amp turn on wire in the harness. How do I add remote turn on so that the sub amp powers up when I turn on the changer?

On a lot of amps you can set it so it will turn on when it gets an audio signal from your HU.

Umm.. No.. Just use the same wire that the radio uses for power- or tap into a fuse that only has power while the truck is on..

I just did mine today. Your switched power to h.u. should be light green/red. Use a test light to make sure...

if you use any other power source your amp will be on all the time, or turn off when you shut the truck off. If you tap into the switched hot to the h.u., your amp will turn off when you shut off the ignition and open the door....just like your stock h.u.

I assume you've found your speaker wire colors to hook up an output converter since there are no RCA's?

This is true for some amps. The ones that come to mind are the newers ones. I was just reviewing an amp from Oasis that has this feature. Nice.

DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT! THESE ARE HARMFUL TO THE TRANSISTORIZED COMPONENTS IN NEWER VEHICLES!!! DMM FTW!

Ya, like he said the Acc wire at the back of the HU is the winner here.

And FWIW: I added the Saleen S331 sub/amp (in the Q~Logic box) I got off ebay to my rig, the fuse location they told me to use was filled so I went to the open slot above which was hot all the time. I was concerned and added a switch in line to turn it on and off, inside my glove box but also sent an email to Rockford Fosgate and their response was; "this unit goes off if not receiving any audio signal, when the signal resumes the amp comes back on", for those of us with these subs/amps in out truck.

Thanks for the tip about the switched HU power lead. Light green with a red stripe is the one. Cut & splice and voila, switched system power. Righteous, man!

I had a wiring diagram for the speaker leads, so, other than "tiny fingers" wiring, no problems with that. Thanks again for the info.

Low resistance. A DMM uses such a high resistance that current barely flows through it to ground. Remember the old addage, "Electricity always takes the path of least resistance, Edison". Therefore the light essentially may be the best way to ground and change quite a few things.

The only time I use a test light anymore, is to charge a capacitor.
