05 sprcrw - I am using Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS, a 6.5 componenet set, for the front doors. I love them. I have a set in my mustang too. They are the best component speakers I have ever heard. Pioneer uses soft dome tweeters, which, IMO, is why I like the sound so much. Car audio and electronics tested them and did a review at http://www.caraudiomag.com/testrepor...prs/index.html

I am using a RF t400-2 to run the components and a RF T500-1bd on the subwoofer. Lots of clean power, I really enjoy the sound.

That's about the same power I am running on mine. You should be happy with that. I have the 12" RF in a down firing box. Make sure you do that, it makes a big difference.

Thanks for that info, I am really liking the way those look. Now, I just need to decide if I want to tackle my audio first or get my 4.56 gears installed. Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

I tried flipping the box to firing up with the first woofer I had, a Pioneer Premier shallow mount. It sounded even worse than firing down. I swapped out the woofer to a RF shallow mount and it is getting the job done. I would disagree, having heard the difference for myself a few weeks ago.

I guess it really depends on the particular situation/driver/install. My truck is heavily deadened...im pretty sure they will sound good no matter which way they are firing.

The driver in yours was the issue. Pioneer shallows arent worth much. Give someone your keys, have them flip it at random and then see if you really notice with a higher quality driver.

You may be right...that pioneer was awful. But I am not going to argue with JL...they set theirs downfiring in the stealthbox, so there must be something to it. I also have two downfiring 8" Kicker L5's in my mustang, one behind each seat. They sound incredible. I never figured out why there is so much negativity towards Kicker and RF. They do make some low end stuff, but the higher end products get the job done.

L5s get stupid loud but sound like garbage (sloppy). My friend has one in his truck, i cant stand it. But i like Kicker's power cables.

Could be his box. My two 8's aren't sloppy at all. Clean and loud. 300RMS a piece. I listen to 80's hair metal and alterantive...maybe a little Prince/Michael Jackson every now and then. I haven't heard a bad track on the L5's yet and I have 50GB worth of tunes on the ipod from Bon Jovi to Frank Sinatra. Every application with the same speakers sounds different. The box, quality of the amplifier, and acoustics in the car make a difference. My L5's are in a mustang convertible and they get the job done. I started out with one 10w6 with 600RMS in the trunk, but road noise with the top down drowned out the lows, so I had to put them in the car...glad I did.

Everyone has their personal standards for sound quality. If you are happy with your subwoofers, then that is awesome.

One last quick question guys, I have come across a JL 500/1 amp for $125 is this a good amp for the money? Is this deal one I should pass up or should I jump on this right away? If I get it I would use it to power an 8" or 10" woofer.
