amp wiring

hey guys, i have question, and be easy please. i am looking to buy a small 4 channel amp for my f150. like 50 or 60 watts x4. these are little amps and the positive and negative wires are equally small. my question is, would i be able to just tap into the radios positive wire to power this amp? i want to put it in the opening either above the glove compartment or below the radio itself and keep the engine compartment clean. i dont want to run a wire to the battery. if this wont work, are there any other suggestions as to not running a wire to the battery?

I wouldn't think so...I would think you wouldn't get enough power to the amp to do its job.
You should try and run at least a 8 gauge power wire and = ground wire. Otherwise you will get that dimming headlight effect.

No way, go to the battery, its not hard.... if you are looking at the battery from the front of the truck, directly behind the battery there is a grommet, easiest freaking thing in the world. All it takes is a little effort, dont be lazy. Getting power from behind the radio is not an option for any amplifier, its dangerous.
As far as keeping it clean, loom the wire... it makes it look factory.

60x4 is the same as my headunit most headunits come with 50x4 but good ones will give you 60x4.... all of these are ran off of the power supply from behind the radio!!! so technically you can, however i wouldnt b/c more than likely you start popping fuses after awhile of use.... i would just get your power from underneath the knee panel underneath the steering while (right from the ignition harness should be fine) or even the kick panel should have a big enough power wire. i personally would just grap your power from behind your fuse box...itll be inside the car but yet hiding from plain view

also dont use 8 gauge thats too big of a wire for your tiny amp...just use 10 gauge!

no, your HU puts out 60 MAX....which is like 17-20 rms
you have to get a separate wire and fuse
for a 4x60, i would definitely go with at least 8 gauge. 10 gauge is like speaker wire.
besides, if you ever upgrade to something bigger, you'd already have the wire

i never said anything about the rms and neither did he so i was under the empression that he was talking abt his max power which means that he only needs 10 gauge. 10 gauge handles everything up 450 8 gauge-600 4 gauge-1200 0 gauge-too much

Wow... I dont even know how to respond. Do you give your friends advice often (PLEASE say no, please say no) ?

What "good" HU even advertises 60x4?

240w @ 17 ft requires a minimum of 8ga.

MAX IS RETARDED.

All numbers @ 17 ft.
10 ga - 200WRMS
8 ga - 400WRMS
4 ga - 900WRMS
2 ga - 1350WRMS
0 ga - 2000W.

Any questions?

and also once again i never said that i was talking abt rms ....the average person doesnt understand what rms is but can grasp the max power, so when i talk to people i state the max b/c they can understand me... the information im giving is for biggbronco and he never stated anything about rms or max so im answering him with max power b/c i know he can grasp that.... rockford fosgate does this as well. if you look at their amp kits they state exactly what i stated. so you can chill out b/c ive only stated max power for everyone elses benefit. if i was talking to another installer i would talk rms b/c they would understand me. i worked for best buy for 5 years and stereo ltd. for 2 years and just about every customer that comes in talks to me abt max power cuz they have no clue what rms is. also if i were to talk abt rms i would state that nothing i have written has had rms after it so therefore i was stating max.

or, because as a certified you know that max doesnt really matter, you could help him out by telling him so and all of us wouldnt get on your *** for appearing to sound freaking retarted.
or maybe it is better for people to think they are right, and just let them install something that isnt going to end up being as good as they thought.

that would be better than factory, so therefore i would believe that is would be good.

its all his opinion since itll be in his truck. i personally would go with a nice 4 chanel alpine with some type e or type r door speakers but thats my truck not his. also it depends on the money he wants to spend. so im not going to tell him whats good or whats not good.

I know I dont post much anymore but I have to vote JL i just replaced my T10001BD RF birth sheet says 1600 watts and like 1000 at 2 ohm for a 500/1 and that amp blows my rockford away. Ive had a ton of amps could never put up the money for JLs stuff tell now and I wont go back. My JL subs have been abused for like 2 years now and still fine while in the same time i burnt up at least 8 other subs from RF to eD (BTW wouldnt **** to put out a fire at eD worst crap ever, and no help when they smoked within a week). Dont start with the over power or dont know what im doing when setting them up, its not that trust me........... JL FTW, no one believes me ive got 2 w3 and a 500/1 in my car anyone that has ever asked has made me pop the trunk to see. (got a new car F1 was f'd)
