Mono Amp Wiring Help
I have a JBL GTO 1201.1 and a 15" RE SX with Dual 2 ohm voice coils.
[i have a install thread somewhere]
To my knowledge, the amp is not 1 ohm stable...right? So I am currently running the setup at a 4 ohm load. The speaker is not as loud as it should be. So i tried something different [not permanent]. I ran the positive & negative wires straight to the amp from the sub. I dont know wat that ohm load equals out to, but it was much louder. However, i re-wired it to 4 ohms, because i didn't want to mess anything up. Is it alright to do it like I had it? Should I find a more powerful/1 ohm stable amp?
Help please, thanks

Unless you buy another sub , then you can run it at a 2 Ohm load .

4 ohm right? (yes my mono amp has 4 connections)
and here's how i wired it earlier when i was jus messin around & it was much louder:

of course red is + and black is - . those lines indicate my speakerwire. my exceptional paint skills
but that defeats the whole purpose of runnin this system....i wanna run this sub. unless i can find a dual 4 ohm SX then i can run it @ a 2 ohm load.....
how do i wire a dual 2 ohm sub for 2 ohms? diagram please?

The reason it was much louder , is because you were running that amp at a 1 Ohm load , verses how you have it now at 4 Ohm . The amp will put out alot more power at a 1-2 ohm load than it will at a 4 Ohm load . However it will only play high volumes for a short period of time at 1 Ohm , before it shuts down . You cannot run that one sub at 2 Ohm . Thats why I suggested finding another 2 Ohm DVC sub (just like the one you have) so you would have 2 . Wire the coils in series and then the subs in parallel , for a 2 Ohm load .
