2-ch. amp behind HU?

Has anyone had success mounting a small 2-ch. amp behind their HU?

I'm looking at powering my 6.5 comps with a small amp. and the rear fill with the HU.

Thanks,
mcgjam

Like, physically behind the head unit in the dash? I dont think there is a decent amp on the market that is that small.

yes it can be done, not so much directly behind the unit, but more like behind and below a bit, there are voids in the dash large enough to accomodate amps with conservative footprints. I had mounted my four channel inside my dash originally but once I added my sub amp I moved it to the back wall of the cab

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm looking for a location behind the dash. It doesn't have to be directly behind the HU. Also, any thoughts on what size amp could be squeezed back there?

Thanks again,
mcgjam

the smallest most efficient amp possible, really depends on how much power you are trying to work with...also I wouldnt try and run it at anything lower than 4 ohms b/c of problems with the heat no dissappating properly inside the dash...i didnt have any issues running my four channel amp in there but it never was pushed hard enough to cause any problems

don't see why it wouldn't work as long as the amp is small enough. give it a shot and make sure to follow up with some pics

Rockfords newer amps are pretty small and fairly decent, but you'd probablly end up paying for rockfords name in the end

Alpine PDX!!! As far as I know, they are all the same size, so you can either get a 2 channel or a 4 channel.

JL's new HD amplifiers. They are smaller than the PDX and available in 600/1 and 600/4

I highly doubt that. Memphis and Alpine are two separate entities. Like GM and Ford, they arent going to share parts.

i used to have an older mtx amp back there. the thing is just make sure that it is held down good and tight. so it won't rattle or anything like that.

Yea.. Sorry, I have should of been more specific- the new memphis line is similar size as the pdx..not exact same size but really close.
the memphis 4ch is 10.51 x 1.91 x 8.66
the alpine is 10-1/8" x 7-9/16" x 2-7/16"
