Amp wiring question

My old amp used an 8 gauge power wire. I purchased a new amp that recomends 4 gauge. What problems may I see if I use the 8 gauge until I upgrade to 4 gauge? Will it reduce the amps output?

Depends on the needs and use of the amplifier on whether or not it will be a problem.

What needs and use would cause a problem?

Current draw is the most important. If you're new amp is rated anywhere above 700-800 watts, you need to step it up to 4 awg. Or if your 8 awg is a really long run.

Imagine it like this. You're trying to drink threw a coffee stirrer. You will get more liquid if you step up to a regular straw. Same concept with amps and power wire.

I go more with 500 if over 15 ft.

Thanks a bunch. Seems to be working OK. But the power run is about 18 ft long on a 600w amp so I am going to upgrade it.
