proper way to install capacitor
proper way to install capacitor
Can someone give me some good imnstructions? I have 2 12" SPL's, a soundstorm 2200 watt amp. It mentions something about charging it first too.
I have a purple ground wire, the 4 gauge red wire some little skinny blue wire going to the amp and ofcourse the wires from them speakers themselves.
Thanks fellas!

1. remove capacitor from package
2. remove trash can lid
3. dispose of capacitor and packaging
4. replace trash can lid
5. walk away
6. thank styxnpicks after you realize you wasted money on a capacitor

for the price of a "quality" cap you can get a second battery, or for half the price you could do the "big 3" and get the same effect of a cap. i agree with styx on this one, i ditch my cap over a year ago.
A pure cap is trash, and has been proven to detrimental to your system if anything.
A "batt cap" which is not really a cap at all, but instead is a battery intended for fast discharge *can* be a decent band-aid when coupled with significant wiring upgrades.
An upgraded alternator is of course the best way to go (in conjunction with extra batteries and bigger wiring etc).

for the money one would waste on caps and batteries they could have got an alternator and solved their problem

2) Hook both positive in and out to + on cap.
3) Ground the cap from - terminal. (use same size wire as 12v+)
4) (if you want) Ground your amps to the - terminal on cap.

Haha, just made my day
Although yall's replies were funny, that was not the help I was asking for. I want someone who knows how to install one to comment and not anyone else now. Sorry you feel the way you do about the capacitors, but I want actual help, because I feel that since I already purchased one for cheap that I want to install it despite how you feel about it. Thanks

Will add that I think the cap is supposed to be mounted something like 18-20" at max from your amp
Also the cap should of come with a charger for it-I think it has a resistor in it or something so it doesnt charge to fast
Didnt the cap come with instructions?
Also does it have digital voltmeter built in or no? I have heard that the digital ones have a tendancy to drain your battery because they sometimes dont shutoff. I personally like the caps that do not have the digital voltmeter in them
OK-im ready for the beatings
I had a rockford fosgate 1 Farad cap in my ranger for about 3 yrs, only thing I noticed was a little deeper bass and less strain on the battery (and this was in line with an optima yellow top and a H/O alternator) so I have no bad about them and until this thread never heard anything bad about them either

Thanks 2006 and low, much appreciated. My next question is am I supposed to have 2 seperate 4 gauge cables one to connect from the battery to the amp and the other from the amp to the cap?
