Help with type of CAPACITOR

I have a set of 12 " woofers and a 2200 watt amp that runs them. What type of capacitor should I get and how many farads for it? I see so many out there with different types of farads and I have no idea what to get. Do I get 1 farad, 3 farads and etc? Thanks, I cant let my altenator go out once again.

Dont even **** around with a cap. Do the big three and if your electrical system cant keep up, you need a bigger alternator, plain and simple.

How many ACTUAL watts is that amp (RMS wattage)

I still dont understand the Big 3. I need step by step instructions and the exact kind of wiring. I just baught a new altenator and installed it. It has 130V. My amp is 2200 watts and my amps wiring was burned out

Do a search on the Big 3. You will find some posts/gallery's with step by step instructions. You will even find pics to make things a lot more understandable.

Good luck

if your amps wiring is burned then you need to address that problem as well, as Bartak mentioned what is the ACTUAL RMS watts that amp is rated for and what wiring are you running to that amp. Off top of my head u could either have run too small a wire for power/ground or there may even be a short somewhere causing the wire to burn.

x3. If your power wire is getting hot enough to burn thru, a cap is not the answer.

I could be wrong, and you guys are more than welcome to correct me if I am, but I HIGHLY doubt your alternator is 130V.

I'm sure he meant 130 amp, but as I have devolved from my research, Ford over rated the alternator on these trucks saying 130A, when in fact they are 110A... and they now say 110A on the stickers on the new trucks....

As to OP, if your wire is getting hot or burning, disconnect it NOW at the battery and correct the problem before your truck goes up in smoke....

post your total RMS on you amps and we'll get strait on what size wire...

nothing when they are used properly and for the right reasons, most people however use them as a band-aid for their charging systems deficiencies which isn't their intended use

Well, there are some massive scientific style studies by hardcore electrical engineers that do prove with science that caps can actually hurt you overall. It has to do with the fact that the "capacity" of caps isn't even remotely as applicable as it would seem, due to the way electricity flows and how you can't store it at a voltage above what it is getting (or something to that effect).

I used to run caps, now I just let them collect dust in my garage

Ok. Agree. I was just being dumb. And waiting for the response Lumadar gave...
