DMM Question

I think I have a faulty remote wire, or my HU remote out is playing tricks on me. Anyway I can test this out with a DMM?
Thanks

sure can. Just put one lead of the multimeter on the remote wire and the other to a ground and watch for a voltage difference when the stereo is turned on. it should be reading +12v but it can vary a few points.

Sweet, Thanks Impact.
Turned out to be a bad remote wire. However during the process I must've screwed up some connection because now the HU wont turn on.
All in all, one problem solved, another one popped up

fuses

Have you checked your fuses for your HU? I've seen alot of stereos that get messed up remote turn on wires, most of the time they read a neg. signal, I wind up running the turn on to the acc....weird

Think my accessory wire might be the culprit now. Should I be getting a 12v reading when the engine is on? Also it is the red wire on the harness (metra) yes?
If I wanted to plug it straight into the factory harness which color is it?

Yes it should be a red wire on your harness. It should be getting 12+/- volts any time the key is on or the truck is running. If you are NOT getting 12 volts from it, you might have blown the radio fuse in the truck for the stock radio.

I cant remember off the top of my head what color the factory 12v accesory wire is...you should be able to follow the red wire from your Metra harness to see what factory wire it goes to when plugged into the factory harness.

I found the acc wire on the harness itself its the green/yellow. However I am not getting any 12v from that either. I checked the #1 fuse which I believe is the acc fuse and its not blown. Kind of stumped

checked the #7 fuse as well and its fine. I'm guessing the #7 is the radio fuse you were talking about?

If both of those fuses are for sure ok but your still not getting power from the green and yellow wire Im not quite sure.....wire might be shorting out or could have gotten cut accidentally when you were messing around in the dash.

Your sure your getting a good connection and everything. Not just on the green/yellow wire, but a good ground too?

I had problems with the factory power/acc wires doing funny things in my truck so I just ran all new wiring. If I were you I would do the same thing, at least for this acc wire. It will take all of 5 minutes to run a new piece of wire from the number 1 fuse to the acc on your radio, compared to messing with the stupid factory thing for 30 minutes trying to figure out what is wrong with it.

No idea how to run a new wire to the fuse, I would plug it straight into the fuse?

Hey Ben,

Yep, straight to the fuse. Here is a pic I had take for someone else. The silver wire is my acc. wire for my HU.

Just pull the fuse out, wrap a little bit of the wire around one of the terminals on the fuse, then stick the fuse back in tight. You will only be able to wrap the wire around about once otherwise the fuse wont stay in. Put the wire on the right side of the fuse too, like I have in the pic.

fuse

Ben, check to see if your #22 #31 #41 fuses are ok
22 is delayed power shutoff (when you open the door) 10A
31 radio power 20A
41 cig. lighter diagnostic connector power (might need it one day!) 20A
^^^^THIS ONE COULD SAVE YOU A HEADACHE IN THE FUTURE^^^^

So it works now I take it? Good deal

I just stuck the camera back in there and hit the button. Took about 5 pics before I was able to get what I wanted. When I have to get back in there Im bent in so many damn shapes I look like a pretzel. Its a PITA getting under there and seeing what you are doing. Lots of cramps too
