Stereo system NOOB questions...

Before answering, keep in mind that this whole setup is for my Jeep, not a truck... Shhhh...

I just got a Punch P3 with dual 4ohm voice coils in a sealed box. There's only one positive and one negative wire coming out of the box. It says that it's a 400 watt RMS, 800 watt Peak sub. What wattage amp should I get? a 500 watt mono amp and turn down the gain?

I need to buy a seperate amp for my other speakers, right? Right now, I have the Wally World Sony XPlod 4 way 5.25" speakers in the dash and 6.5" 4 ways in the overhead speaker pods. I want to upgrade these, as they distort out just running off of the deck's power (Or is this a case of under-powering the speakers?).

All of the 5 and 6 channel amps I looked at on Crutchfield looked WAY underpowered for the sub... So, do I buy 2 amps, one for the sub only and one for the others, or is there a 5 or 6 channel that will do the trick?

Thanks in advance...

I pulled the sub out of the box and it's wired in series, so that makes it 8 ohms, if that helps...:o

This is what a buddy said....

that means it wants a mono feed rather than stereo....they wont sound dynamic but they will POUND bass....Punch speakers are very rigid, so they literally need what they ask for....a Punch amp is going to sound the best since they were made for the Punch amp.....he needs to buy as much amp as he can afford.....at least 400 watts mono power
Also want to add:

if money permits, buy that monster Punch 1000 and run everything off of that garage door of an amp...it can push all 3 in tight unison and it sounds better than 2 seperate amps, one on bass and one on mids-highs
Lancaster 2050 says:
plus, with that set up, you have one ground, one fuse, one set of RCAs, only one thing to troubleshoot....simple is better....

and not to mention, you'd also have the meanest car amp on the planet

it will push the gates off of hell

Tell him to be realistic... So, at least 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms for the sub and then match (or higher) the other amp's wattage to the other speakers?

Come on guys, throw me a BONE!!!

You need to clean out your PMs...

Thanks a bunch. What's a good durable 5.25 component set and 6.5" coaxial that will withstand AZ desert heat and dust?
