Amp install ???s
Amp install ???s
Getting ready to install an amp on my 04scab. I am going to use the factory radio. I have installed aftermarket stereos and amps before but never using the stock radio. What all do I need as far as getting signal from the radio to the amp. I am assuming some kind of RCA converter behind the radio. Also what do you use for the remote wire. I am assuming the stock one has one some where.
Down the road I plan on adding satelite radio. Will any of this intefere with that installation.
One more question. Is there any benefits to have the speaker down firing or up.

Yes, you need a simple line out convertor. Depending on your amp, you can get a two or four channel model. I would try and get a little better than the cheap ones. They can add noise to your system. You should be able to tap the remote signal from the factory radio harness. I am not sure which one it is without pulling my head unit.
Sat radio should be no problem if you get the right interface. I am not sure what all types there are for factory but, should be plenty of choices.
If you plan on putting a sub or subs under the rear seat, the only thing you might have to worry about upfiring or down for that matter is the sub hitting the seat bottom or the floor. You do not want the subs surround flapping against carpet. Not a pretty sound.

Anyone recommend a good line converter that they have experience with. Does it really matter where you tap into the speaker wires. Some at a speaker and others say at the deck. Figured I would have the deck out hooking up the remote so might as well do it there.

I have a PAC that I use when I need to run the stock head unit. I got it locally from a Car Audio shop.
I really do not think it matters where you tap it. You either run long runs of speaker wire or longer runs of rca cables.
