You can check to make sure your amp is getting power, that it has output, use one to set the gains...

Do I leave it at 200 ohms to check gains? Where would I put connectors

Yes, it must be done while running. This is because when your truck is running, your getting USUALLY around 2 more volts from your electrical system, as compared to when its off. More voltage equals more wattage from your amp, so if you set it with the truck off, you would have to turn the gain up higher to compensate for the lack of voltage. When you had the truck running then, your gain would be to high.

What do you mean it kept on jumping?

It would show 28 but would get up to 30 and low like 15. Is this a sign of my amp dying?
