New Amp, Which One?

Well I think I was taking out my sub box one day and I accidently touched the wires together and blew my amp so I need to buy a new one. The one I had was way to much power for the subs so I want to get just enough this time. The subs are kenwood, I dont know what model but on the back it says 700w so I want something around there. I want one with a remote to turn up the bass on my dash. So please help me find one, send links and brand/model numbers please.

Depending on which wires you touched, you might want to check the fuses in your amp and your inline fuse.

I think I touched the 2 that go into the sub box, the positive and negative together.

Highly unlikely you blew the amp up by doing that.

Like dye said, check your fuses.

That's why is always important to disconnect your battery when fooling around with the power wires, etc.

What kinda amp is it?

Like rob said.. Check the fuses. That's why they are there after all..

Also, Brypink2 has been talking pretty highly of his Zapco amp lately, which I know has an in-dash remote. Maybe that is something to consider for you.

There are several amps on the market that classify as high end and great. 2 things to consider....
1st, you get what you pay for. If you see a 1000w amp for $100, its not a 1000w amp. If it retails for over 4-500$, that sounds about right. Check out Ebay, they have some serious amps at discounts.
2nd, and the easiest, check the fuse rating. High wattage ( claimed ) with a 20v fuse, is a piece of crap.
Fosgate, Diamond, Crossfire, JL Audio, Memphis, US Amps, Zapco, even some MTXs and Kickers are good. Stay away from Lanzar, Pioneer, Kenwood, Boss, Audiobahn, Volfenhang, Legacy.... these are crap.
Kenwood Audiobahn, and Pioneer make good headunits, but ****ty amps and subs. My opinion anyway

I have always used alpine since they started shop. I switched to jl audio
(300/4 and a 500/1) 2 300/4s later, I switched back to alpine. I had a channel go out on 2 of the JLs.

Alpines are good value and great workhorses.

As for touching the speaker wires together, that will not hurt your amp. If you hooked your amp up backwards (switched the ground and the +) that will do the trick. Back, 15 years ago when I started to do this stuff, have actually arced the power to the ground and welded it to the wrong terminal. Not a good idea. Miraculously my brother was a EE and was able to fix my old amp. Now I know better.

Good luck.

try Autotek

I've got a 6 channel Autotek amp running two pairs of JL componenents and two JL 10's. I love it, clear sound, never had it overheat. You can get a 600 watt at 4 ohm single channel for around $440 from "online car stereo"

What about if the ground wire touched the REM and BATT?

They would just short to ground. You might blow the fuse on the batt for the positive wire. You might also blow the the fuse on cd player with remote wire. It wouldn't hurt the amp at all. Makes a cool spark though. Ground and Pos wire touching.

Naw no fuses blew. Your right it did make some cool sparks. What does bridgeing mean on amps?
