BadA$$ New Stereo System... Advice

Hey Guys, I just got all my parts I ordered for my 05 F150 SuperCrew... Heres whats going in:

Pioneer P8600MP Head Unit
AutoTek Monoblock 1200 Watt RMS @ 1ohm for the bass
AutoTek 400Watt RMS (100 RMS x4) for the components
Infinity 6800 6x8 Components in all four doors
Musicmoose Dual 10" Sub Box
2 Audiobahn AW1000Q Woofers, each handles 600RMS, 1000 Max.
Pioneer Satellite Radio
Capacitor

So, thats a lot of stuff to put in, and I dont want to get started on this to find out something isnt going to fit right or some other crap. So what should I look out for? When I mount my amps, I was going to put them both behind the rear seat. What do you guys think? How do I get that seat out? What I REALLY want to know is do I just use some self taping screws and drill them to the back of the cab??? And where should I mount the satellite antanne and how should I route the wire?

And as far as the crossovers for the door speakers, I have heard people put them in the armrests... How do I get those suckers open? Any suggestions on mounting any of this, PLEASE let me know! I am going to take a TON of photos as I do it so I can make a nice gallery for other people to follow if they want...

And lastly, I think this should sound pretty bitchin... Anyone have a similar setup?

Thanks!

Crossovers : I assume they are enclosed in a squaris plastic cases right? I'd say either under the front seats (or rear), or under the dash somewhere. If they are adjustable, which I don't think the Infinity ones normally are, I would hide them under the dash.

Amps : I'd just mount them to the floor under the rear seat if possible, that way you could just lift the seat up to adjust the amp. Or since you have a sub going in, maybe put one amp on the floor, and one right above it on the underside of the seat. Just make sure the wires have some give for you to lift the seat up.
The seat is easy to remove, just a few bolts. In fact I would remove all the seats since this is a good sized install. It would make it easier to work on, as well as make it easier to run the wires etc....

If the sub box takes up al the space under the seat..... you could mount them underneath the front seats, either on the floor, or on the underside of the seats.

Let me know how the box mounts I'll post exactly what I would do.......

BTW, I have bought atleast 5 Autotek amps, and they have been great. Not as known as some companies, and better priced than the major brands, but IMO are as good as a lot of the mroe well known ones. Plus most of their models like awesome.

Pioneer P8600MP Head Unit- FANTASTIC headunit.

AutoTek Monoblock 1200 Watt RMS @ 1ohm for the bass- Were good amps back in the day, i think they are owned by someone new now and haven't had any experience with them lately.

AutoTek 400Watt RMS (100 RMS x4) for the components - ditto ( you could do a cool active set up if you wanted )

Infinity 6800 6x8 Components in all four doors - Infinities have been known for harsh tweets 6x8's won't give you as good quality sound as a round speaker will, just part of the physics

Musicmoose Dual 10" Sub Box - i would build your own box, would be way cheaper and sound a LOT louder and 100x more accurate on the SQ side. 40 bucks for supplies to make it.

2 Audiobahn AW1000Q Woofers, each handles 600RMS, 1000 Max. - you can get some WAYYYY better subs. Audiobanh makes some ok low budget amps, but all there subs are garbage excluding their immortal series. Ask around and people will give you some opnions that will work well with that amp. Maybe some ED, RE, SS. People have been getting loud with the new type-rs lately.

Pioneer Satellite Radio - ok? i have no idea about this

Capacitor- don't waste your money here, you won't need one.

Yea Autotek is owned by someone else. All my amps were well before they sold out or whatever (around 2001 or so is when I bought them).
Here's a reply I got back from there tech guy when I emailed him about an issue I have had with the SS300.2's that I have (I also have a Stealth 1100.2 or something like that)
Hello Aaron,

I'm sorry you experienced these prioblems with your amps.

We purchased Autotek in December of last year and are still learning about
there products (especially the older ones).

Although out of warranty, the amps can still be repaired.
You will need to contact our customer service department at (847) 540-7700.

Best regards,
John

Yeah Ive heard that about AutoTek... The amps I have are a little older, I used them in my last car with 3 12W6s. They have been working well though and its what I have now...
Aaron; Yeah the crossovers are small plastic boxes. I wanted to see if I can get them in the armrests, as I have seen this before somewhere to keep the wiring to a minimum. Just so long as it works. Sub box takes up entire area under the rear seat BTW. The box I have cost me less then $80 shipped and was worth every penny in my opinion. Ive built boxes before, and yeah you can get it more custom, but its not worth my time to mess around with all that.

How do I get the back seat off? Where did you guys run the power wire?

If you can tell me of some 10" subs that will take 600RMS each and are less then 5.5" deep I would like to know about them... This is what I found and even better they werent a ripoff. I have had subs ranging from crap to super dank, and for my purposes and requirements, Kuijo, this should be sweet. Sorry you dont like some of my stuff but I didnt ask for your opinion on it... I need some help fitting this crap in there and was looking for people with advice on that. Thanks. And yeah, for sure, I will need a capacitor.

Ok, just looked at my truck. It's probably not the exact same underneath the rear seats as yours, but pretty close I imagine, so I am basing this off my truck.

Actually taking a look at the stuff you got and I know you didn't ask for opinions, but.... these the speakers you orders?

I put these (well older model and 6 1/2's I think) in the front of a friends Integra, and they were awesome. Tweeters sounded fantastic once I got them tuned right, and the mid ranges sounds great as well.

Subs - I suppose there are always gonna be "better" subs, but almost any sub can be made to sound great if the setup is right (box, amp settings etc....), and I never would have considered AudioBahn "garbage".

Box - this the box?
http://musicmooseaudio.com/ford_f_150f.html

Hell for $80 shipped I think you got a good deal. Even if for some reason you had to seal it better (doubt you will but you never know) with some caulk it would still be worth it over the time/effort of building one. I do normally like more airspace (I normally go .25-.50 a cubic feet over recommended airspace), but if for some reason they don't sound how you would like, poly fill can easily and cheaply be added. I like building box and I may go with one of theirs when I add a sub(s) to my truck. 3/4" MDF was almost $30 when I bought a sheet a couple months ago., so it's not as cheap as it once was to make your own.

Satellite radio - which model did you get?
Capacitor - I suppose you won't "need" it, but if you have the money, and want one, why not? Plus they aren't the expensive anymore so.... dimming lights are kind of ghey too lol.

Anyways, you are definitely gonna be limited on space. I wish I had some pics or something of how the new trucks looked under the seats, behind the rear seat etc..... Any chance you could take some pics?

Guess I'll still give some ideas based on my trucks layout anyways.
No room behind rear set for anything (amps), so the only place would be underneath the front seats, or mount them on the front of the box. I doubt the box is high enough for that though.
Crossovers - I see what you mean now. The arm rests on the door panel. I was thinking of something else. I am assuming you are getting the newer style of components with the adjustmeent for the tweeters.
If it were me, I would get them adjusted, then put them inside the doors, or underneath the front seats along with the amps. This would be my main choice since they woudl be easier to get to if there were a problem or something.

Capacitor - underneath seats with amps if possible. Of course based on my layout there's not much room in between the seat frame (other than under the middle).

Radio - not 100% sure how they work, but I am guessing the main unit doesn't have any adjustments on it, and it's all done via the "remote" input thing. So, if that's the case, underneath the dash somewhere, that way you coudl run the cable/wire for the "remote" through the dash without ever having to run it into the main part of the cab.
Since you'll be running two amps and a capacitor, I'd get a distribution block for sure. You'll probably have to drill a hole in the firewall to run the power wire (I'd recommend not going through one of the floorpan grommets and underneath the truck). If you put the amps underneath the front seats, pull up the carpet (seats should be removed), and run it up to where you want the distribution block (near the amps normally) by putting a small slice in the carpet where the block will be.

Might also be able to make an amp rack of some sort for underneath the front seats, looking something like

l___l-----l____l

and maybe making it with a "top" so you could mount the crossovers and dis. block upside down on the rack, kind of above the amps.

Oh yea, your setup should sound pretty friggin good with everything adjusted "correctly" (I used quotes cuz not everyone likes the same type of sound etc...), and you are really making me think about adding a sub so mine soon. Wonder if I could fit a 12" under the seat with the airspace I like 1.5cu.ft.

Giving you some advice from expierance. Go ahead and waste your money if you want, i'm running a 1300w amp and a 300w amp with no cap. I was going to give you some more suggestions till you started being a jackass. Good luck!

Thanks guys... Yeah those are my speakers and sub box. I thought it was pretty sweet box considering the spot it fits into. I have the subs mounted already but I just got off the phone with Audiobahn and ordered some trim rings that dont stick out like the stock ones (AW1000N at audiobahn.com).

That box did need a little caulk on one side to seal it all the way, but thats it. I can get MDF free for life (Friend owns a contractor supply) but still...

GEX-P920XM is the model of Sat. receiver I bought. Got if off ebay brand new with antanne for about $95 shipped. I like the idea of mounting the antanna under the front cowl as I read someone had done, but will the signal really be OK there?

I thought I would be able to mount these amps and maybe even the cap behind the seats. You guys dont think so? I still have my 1 farad cap and that wasnt big enough on my last car with these amps and some JL 12W6s, so if I need to maybe get a square cap to fit back there thats cool too. If anyone needs a cap. I have one for sale. And yes, I do need a cap, and if you dont run one you probably have lights that dim. But, youll probably try to tell me its a wiring thing... Anyways. Sorry you think Im a jackass but you basically rolled in and told me everything I was doing is crap instead of actually answering my questions about mounting stuff. Thanks anyways.

On a side note as I was writing this I got my 2" front spacers from Auto Spring Corp. I would reccomend them based on the looks of the product and the fast shipping so far. I put it on tonight and align it in the AM so Ill let you guys know what I think.

And as I do this Im gonna take so many friggin photos... Ill put them online and link to it so those of you who want to do this stuff can learn from what I do and maybe get more ideas.

Sounds cool. Def. get pics, especially of the amps behind the seat(if they will fit). Ive never seen pics of them mounted back there on the 04+'s and would like to see a few.

Good luck with the install.

Would you be able to take some pics underneath the seat, and behind the rear seat? I looked for pics on the net, but all I found were "general" views of the cab.

For sure... The Subs I got had this fancy trim ring that "protects" the foam surround... That crap didnt fit right so I had to order last years model trim ring for them... When that shows up Ill be putting all this in the truck and taking as many photos as possible. I also noticed the lack of good photos for those of us trying to install our first system in these trucks.

Cool. Yea it'd be a little easier to give some thoughts on locations if I new more of what the inside of your cab was like (versus mine).
Bet you are pretty anxious man, I know I would be.

Talking

Well Here's what we got done so far today... I am on the way to the stereo shop to grab some more wire and I think I already have everything to get this done...

Here is with the spacers from Auto Spring Corp off eBay...

And here is the stereo system progress...

What do you guys think so far? I got the subs under the seat and Ill get some photos of that this week as soon as I get the trim rings that will fit right. They are the largest subs I could get for that Musicmoose box...

Looks good there!

I was wondering--Do you think you'll have any problems with rust where the screws go through the wall?

I had the same thought before I started installing; but I was able to mount the amps in spots where it does not go through to the exterior. There are 2 pieces of metal sandwiched together, and there are spots where there is a gap between them... Thats where I screwed in...

I just got done running my RCAs, Sub remote, and power wires. I really thougt it would be more complicated then it was... I did it this morning in my pajamas in less then an hour. All the panels you need to remove pop off (Last 2 cars had screws), there is a nifty hole on the passenger side you can run the power wire through. I found a tip in another thread describing it, but its about the size of a nickel and its right where the kickpanel meets the door scuff plate on the passenger side. You have to push the existing wire harness over a bit to see it but you just run your power through there. I used 4 gauge wire and even with the ring terminal connector it fit through no problem. Then route the wire up over the passenger side inner fender and it pops out next to the battery... sweet.

Now that I think about it, it only takes a 10mm wrench, and a screwdriver to get EVERYTHING you need to get out of a 05 Super Crew to install a stereo system. The 10mm wrench is for the two bolts on the rear seatbelt cover, and the screwdriver is to remove the radio in the dash. 4 screws there. And thats it!

And if anyone wants to take a look at my myspace page ( I know its weak but you gotta see my photo its sweet) its http://www.myspace.com/robamus

yup.
