Need 4-channel amp suggestions

Folks, I need some suggestions on some 4 channel amps. Sound is definitely a concern, but for me it's secondary to cost. I'm looking for something in the $300 range or less. The amp needs to be between 75-100w RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms preferably. It looks like I'm going to be running 4 Infinity Kappa's off of it at present.

I've been looking at an Infinity 7540A 4-channel, which is priced right at $300, but I read a couple of reviews where folks had some clipping problems. Anyone have experience with this amp? Does anyone have any other amp suggestions?

Regards,
Tom

Tom,

I was looking into the JL Audio 300/4 amp.

75x4 @ 4ohms.....I think it might be worthwhile. I am also going to be running 4 Kappas I think. Right now I only have two (rear doors) but I am buying a set for the front doors. My fronts are cheap Cerwin Vegas, which I will be replacing very soon. Don't know which direction to go either, but that JL is leading the pack. Hope this helps.

Russ

Cool Performance Teknique

I recently installed a 4 channel Performance Teknique (PT) 800W amp. I run Infinity Reference 5 x 7's and a Kenwood KDC222 CD Player. I am very pleased with it and you can find them online for under $150.
My son runs the 600W PT amp, Eclipse Speakers, Head Unit, and 12" Sub. However, the sub is running off of a 1000W Sony Xplod amp.
I bought my amp locally for $185 installed. This was a killer deal.
Good luck.

I got a US Acoustics USX-4065 (4x65) amp for $85 shipped on ebay. It sounds great.
With the crossovers adjusted, you can really crank on it...

I just bought and installed a JL audio 300/4 ($300 shipped on ebay). It seems to be a very clean and powerful amp although I will have a better idea once I install Kappa components today or tomorrow.

Check out ebay or indoaudio.com and look at the pheonix gold TANTRUM amps. They're being discount'd in favor of the new Xenon series. I just bought a Tantrum 600.4 (75 x 4) for $260 shipped, and it rocks!

Rocka, thanks for the outlook on the Tantrum. I think you just sold me on the Phoenix Gold TANTRUM T600.4.....looks perfect for my preferences. I have had a LOT of trouble deciding if I want Audiobahn, Alpine, MTX or Phoenix Gold.

The specs for that amp are perfect. Does it push hard? I will be running 4 Infinity Kappas off of it. I also like the 4 volt sensitivity for the front/rear inputs. My Alpine CDA-9825 will like that.

I haven't hooked it up yet, still waiting on a tatrum 300.2 and 400.4 for the rest of my system. Fedex is slow! I'm going to use the 600.4 to power 2 sets of polk 6.5 db seperates for the front of my 02 SCREW, the 300.2 will power the 5.25 db rear door seperates, and the 400.4 will be bridged and sent to my 2 rockford fosgate punch stage 2 10" subs that are in a sealed box behind the rear seat. It should rock hard, i have spent weeks matching amps to speakers, I had infinities in my grand cherokee and i loved them, but a friends got polk db's amd polk amps and they were the right price, buy 1 set get 2nd 1/2 off, so we'll try'em. If i have any problems, it's back to infinities. The tantrums come with power certifications done with RMS watts for real time power. You'll like them.

p.s. CARTOYS of Seattle gave me a listen to the demo TANTRUM 600.4 running infinity kappa perfect's 6.5's and the amp was impressive. I bought the amps on ebay at indoaudio because they are new and still a little cheaper than cartoys wanted for the remaining demo's.

good luck.

Yeah, you can use the 600.4 to run front and rear speakers at the same time and it lets you choose high-pass, low-pass, or non-fadding (sub) on two seperate built in cross overs. So just set it to high pass (hp) and let your infinities scream.
