5-amp question...opinions, please!

OK, I've narrowed it down to:

1. US Acoustics USB-4085, $180
2. Kicker KX600.4, $221
3. Phoenix Gold Tantrum T600.4, $258
4. Avionixx AXA440.4, $235
5. Precision Power PCX-480, $230

Prices include shipping.

All of the above are around 4x80w RMS at 4ohms. I'll use it to run a pair of component speakers and a 10" sub in a Nissan extended cab pickup. Application: rock, jazz, classical, instrumental, at loud but not earth-shaking volume...clarity and fullness for me is more important than brute power. Also would like it to run cool as possible.

In particular, are #2-5 SIGNIFICANTLY better than #1? Is the most expensive one, #3, also the best? #1 is from Crutchfield, #4 from the manufacturer, the rest from eBay but new.

thanks!

http://www.millionbuy.com has a very nice Soundstream Edge EGA4220 for $169. 110x4@4 ohms. I would say it's comparable to the best of the 5 you listed.

97f250,

WOW. That is one hell of a nice deal! Just for sheer RMS, it beats even the US Acoustics in value.

I don't know anything about Soundstream, just vaguely remember hearing their name mentioned among the top small audiophile brands.

Thanks a bundle, I'll definitely look into this!

Warranty Dude

Does it have a 3year warranty ? Something to think about. Selling price isn't everything.

Ricksta,

You're right of course, and that's what's stayed my hand on all of these eBay items.

What I wonder though, is how often high-quality brand amps like those really break down. Like maybe a bad amp just sounds bad from day one, but never really dies on you? I have no idea, since I have never owned an amp before.
