Crunch Amplifier

Was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the Crunch line of amps. Apparently Crunch is owned and operated by the same company that makes Hyfonics (which I've had good experience with in that past). I'm looking for a five channel amp to use in my wife's SUV to power a system I'm building. Space is limited, so I want to try and run everything off of one amp. Anyway, this is the amp I'm looking at:

Crunch - Blackmax - BLX5520
4 x 100w + 1 x 300w @ 4ohm
Price: $150

Is this a good amp? Should I look for something else? Let me know your thoughts asap since I need to get back to the seller and let him know if I want it.

Every one has there opinions but mine is that crunch products are nothing mroe then flea market style equipment.

I would bet you would get about 100 watts total true rms out of that amp. MAYBE!

will it work? YES! will it work to any type of high standard that would make your ears perk up and say hello? NO!

So in your opinion Crunch really doesn't have it like it's sister company Hyfonics does. Or do you have the same or similar opinion of Hyfonics? Do tell. Is there a five channel amp that you know of that you'd recommend I look at?

well almost every company has high and low end stuff and many companys make stuff for others to put there name on.

I think hyphonics is by far beter then there little brother is they do infact make crunch items. I'm taking your word on that since i have never researched into whom the maker of crunch is.

Personaly i would never run only one amp for highs mid and subs. I am a big follower of class d amps. hands down they give cleaner uninterupted power then any multi channel amp around.

in my wifes truck she does not have any subs other then a pair of seperates with 6 inch woofers and three 6x9's. in her truck we run a JL Audio JL5005 5-Channel Amplifier . her truck sound stage is spot on beautiful and the amp really impressed me.

other then that i have no other experience with 5 channel amps

gl to ya

btw dont always be sold on a amp because it has a big wattage number on the front. if you notice you'll see that many of the HIGh END amps have rather LOW wattage numbers for there price.

the difference is that a 40 watt per channel class D amp for say 800 bucks is going to blow the Chit out of just about any "1000" watt amp for 199.99 at your local walmart. the differance is the power behind the wattage. I say you can expect to pay about 1 to 2 dollars per watt for a nice clean amp. remeber anyone can put a big number on a cheap amp just to look cool and sell there product but when you open it up its filled with lead weights and just about nothing else.

you also might want to look at a Alpine MRVF340 V-12 Series this is a four channel amp but I put it in my daughters car and have been really happy with the results. its a prime example of pure clean wattage. we hooked it up to 2 set of alpine 6 inch type R seperates and it really sounds hot. you would not be dissapointed

Hey, thanks for the info, but all I was looking for was a nod or not on the Crunch brand. I'm very familiar with current stereo system technology (i.e. your wattage analogy and the like). Just had no personal experience will the Crunch brand. And as for JL Audio and Alpine, they make super products but they're both somewhat more expensive than my budget will allow. Just looking for a 'good' middle of the road amp that would power four full range channels and a sub. Thanks again though for the response.

ok well then in that case
Yes the crunch amp you listed will run your system at a fairly decent level and as long as your not expecting the world you should be fairly happy.

Ps: i say that not knowing what speakers you are pushing with it.
which in hind sight should have been the very first thing i asked you

ok your going to laugh but i figure i would tell you anyhow.

If your on a budget and want a amp that works well

ready for this!! lol go to radio shack. i know it sounds dumb but its true. i have seen and used these amps when i first started in on car and home audio and these thing are like tanks.

we hooked a 200 what radio shack brand amp to a stroker 10 and believe it or not i pushed it rather well. no grant it that is a very efficent speaker but still. the point was to see how long it took to over heat the amp and to everyone in the shops surrprise it never shut down after a full 20 min of high volume bass cd's

I wont tell you these things are dimonds in the ruff but they acctualy work well.

once again i know it sounds crazy but after seeing several of these things come into our shop pushing rather expensive systems i have never knocked on them again

also when placed on our computers they did puch what they say they do
