Auto on lead???

Can anyone tell me what I can hook the auto on lead to. I have easy access to my fuse box, but every thing in there stays hot. I added an amp using my stock radio and I am trying not to have to take the radio out. Even if I did, I would not know which wire to hook it up to. Any suggestions???

If you really wanna ghetto rig it. Just hook a jumper wire to the remote from the 12 volt wire coming off your battery with a in the middle of the jumper wire. That way you can cut it on and off. I'd imagine this method would get old after a while. Switching amp on and off everytime you wanna hear it.

i believe the cigarette lighter is switched. the amp turn-on lead doesn't draw much power, so you could probably tap the hot lead without a problem. of course, the amp would be on whenever the truck is on regardless of the state of the radio. i don't know if any speaker-level to rca converters have this feature, but it would be nice.

I checked, the cigarette lighter is not switched, it works with no keys in truck. I don't like the switch thing, it would get old fast and I know I would forget to trun it off. I guest I will have to remove the radio and stab wires until I find the switched one for the radio. Sure is a lot of work for one little wire. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you pull out the radio the switched wire is the black one with the red stripe(in the drivers side harness) I spliced into this, also put a switch on it.

If you dotn have the tool to get your radio out, this is what i did. Pop off the panel around the radio/heat/ac controls etc, then stick a peice of flat metal about 3 high and however long(so you can hold it) and shove it in each side. This pops the clips and gets it out.

Thanks Bartak1, but why did you put a switch on a switched line? I see you have an 99, I wonder if the 04 switched wire is a differant color.

I put a switch on it so my amp isnt on if I tunm off the radio with the switch, and sometimes when someone is tolking on the radio the voice is to bassy and hard to understand so I can shut it off.

Im not sure if the wires are different colors or not, I jsut tool my turn on lead wire and stuck it in each little hole till my amp turned on.
