Post Under the front seat amp install question

This question is after the fact, but I would like to ask it anyway. I have a 2003 F-105 4x4 supercab XLT. I had two amps and a subwoofer installed in my truck on 8/1/03. I had requested that the amps be installed one under the drivers side front seat and the other under the passenger side front seat. I verified that the amps would physically fit in between the seat frames. The only problem was that each seat has a wire running through the middle of the seat floor under the seat that connects to the seat. I think they are for the seat belts or airbags. I told the install place this and we agreed that they would extend the wires to make the amps fit. Well low and behold, when I went to pick up my truck, the amps were installed under the passenger side rear seat, where the jack was. I wanted to avoid having my jack moved, but the installer told me that he called a local Ford dealership about extending the wires, and they told him that he shouldn't because it might upset the circuitry because of the resistance of the extra length of wire. Now does this sound right or do you think my installer just didn't want to remove the seats to install the amps? On a different note, the install under the rear seat is first rate. They built me an amp rack that looks really nice and didn't charge me any more then the negociated price for the under the seat install.

The extra resistance theory would be acceptable if the added wire was of substantial distance. Also, the splice connections add a small degree of resistance.

I think you're better off with the under the rear seat install anyway, you don't have to cut into any of the factory wiring and risk causing any problems with the vehicle.

Where is your jack now?

Jack Location

My jack is located under my front driver seat. I have a bag that I store cables and tie downs in, so I wrapped the jack up in that and slid it under my seat. I would like to mount it somewhere, but I don't know of any place in the cab I can mount it. I suppose I could come up with something for the bed of my truck, but I don't want to drill holes in the bed. Where was the jack located before it was under the rear seat? I think I'm safe for now, but I would like to eliminate the potential for a flying projectial in an accident.

In my 98 regular cab, the jack is mounted under the passenger seat. I'm sure you could find the plastic bracket that it sits in either online or at a junkyard. Then all you'd have to do is put a bolt in the floor for it to mount to and voilà.

Where are the jacks mounted in the newer regular cab trucks, behind the seats?

I looked at under the seat.

Thanks for the reply, but I looked at my buddies 98 extended cab to see where his is, and low and behold it is under the front passenger side seat. So I thought, I will mount mine there. Well I can't because I have a bracket that runs from one front mounting foot to the other. The seat in my buddies truck and I assume yours has no bracket. I believe the bracket is for extra bracing for the seat in an accident since I have the seat belts in my seats and not on the door frame. I think what I going to try and do is stick it on the under side of my spare. I think I will wrap it in foam and then put it in some plastic and then jack the spare up and sandwich it between the spare and the bed floor. I think this will work. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

Could you weld a bolt to that seat bracket and then attach the jack holder to that?

I could but........

I could probably weld a bolt there, but the way the jack is inclosed in it's case it won't fit under the seat. I could remove it from it's cass, but then there would be no more mounting holes. Good idea on your part though.

I ran into the same problem when i went to mount my amp. I took measurements, got the size of the amp and ordered online.
Of course when it came time to mount i realized those dam wires could be a problem! but i squeezed the amp under the seat length wise, but then it was too long, and i couldnt drill through that dam bracket your talking about. FRUSTRATING!

Anyway i ended up just drilling it in the floor right behind the driver seat, and ripped out the small part of the flip up rear bench, and built a carpeted platform of MDF, of which my sub sits on. I lost alot of room in the back, but if you think about it, its only one seat, and i can feel the bass hitting me in the back.

Anyway i Feel ya on the frustration of those whatever the hell they are wires, and the bracket!

But most important hows the tunes sounding?

Tunes sound awesome!

Neck4742,

My tunes are awesome. The two amps I have are mounted under the passenger side rear seat and the sub box is under the drivers side rear seat. The best thing is I only lost the storage under both seats. I can still use the seats for my kids. The factory HU was always cranked to the point of distortion and it still wasn't even close to being loud enough. Now with my Alpine HU 9803, Alpine Amps MRP-F240 and MRP-M350, MTX 10" sub RT1004, Subbox from Subbox.net, and my Kenwood 6879I 6x8" door speakers my system really rocks. I can't even come close to turning the system all the way up with out hurting my ears. No distortion of any kind and the bass really hits hard. I'm really happy as you can tell. The only down side is the jack placement which I'm dealing with.

Thumbs up true that

Good luck with the jack placement. I need more hard hitting bass in my car. my amp clips the signal if pushed to hard i think, might need a mono amp for the sub.

Oh well, good luck to you
