what is this?

got back from mudfest yesterday and found the wires coming off of it melted into two pieces cuz it got jammed up against a header tube.

the two wires connected into a three prong plug along with a vacuum hose that came from the front axle. it leaked out gear oil all over the place. anyone know what it does?

Those are the solenoids that send vacuum to the vacuum motor on the front diff to lock and unlock it. Can't remember which one does which.

Make sure the vacuum lines did not melt, otherwise no 4x4.

Yeah I know. It didn't. It just came loose and spilled out some oil. I plugged it back in and that line isn't damaged at all

Vacuum lines would not leak oil. Sounds like your breather is what came loose. In which case, you may have sucked in some water and mud to the front diff.

Makes sense. I was goin to change the diff oil in it cuz some leaked out and it needs it done. Is there anything else I should do to make sure there isn't any mud or water in it?

When you have the diff cover off, rinse the pumpkin out with some solvent, kerosene, or diesel fuel and let it dry thoroughly.

Also, if you decide to do your rear and you have a limited slip diff, make sure to add friction modifier to it, assuming the replacement fluid you use doesn't already have it.

What type of solvent do you mean?

I did the rear awhile back with royal purple fluid which had the friction modifier in it.

Looks like you are buying a new vacuum line setup. Also, when you change the front diff fluid, you don't have to remove the cover, there is a drain and a fill plug on the front of the diff. You will need some small diameter hose to pump the fluid into the diff from the oil bottle.
