Tail Pipe on '97's

Why did Ford move the tail pipe back behind the rears after 1997's. I thought it made good logic in front of the real wheels. Less corrosion, less material (less cost in manufacuring), cheaper to replace, looks cool...

It was done because of a recall, I think people were complaining that their rims were becoming discoloured from the exhaust.

Yup, thats the reason. Over time, the exhaust gasses would make aluminum wheels start to turn blue.

Don't some states still have a law that the exhaust must exit behind the rear wheels?

i think unless you have a L exhaust, the pipe in front of the wheel looks retarded.

the reason was all 97-98 had short exhaust 4.2 and 4.6 for hp 205 for v6 and 210 for small 8, single side before the tire gave them 10 hp to the chevy 4.3 190hp
