Tail Pipe on '97's
The real reason they came out in front of the wheel in the beginning was because it saved them a ton of pipe not going over the wheel and they had spent so much on the new design.

Yeah, they moved them because of pitting and discoloration on the wheel behind the pipe. I like it, though, just rotate the wheels out every so often, that way they are all at least discolored the same amount. 
Also, when running straight pipes to the stock location, OMG the sound at WOT is amazing with the shorter pipe.

that's what I heard too, i've looked but I never saw a discolored rim unless there was something wrong with the truck
The exhaust on all cars must not exit under the passenger compartment, if its a pickup with a sealed cab I can be dumped before the axle, or out the side of the cabin is okay too
