If you need a line on parts or have questions, I have a buddy in Michigan that knows all there is about 70's Fords. We used to do body swaps on the trucks for a days worth of work. He has a parts Bronco sitting in his yard and 12 76-79 trucks in his yard. Pretty much anything you need to finish a resto project. Good luck!

If the top is very bad, it could mean the gel-coat is pretty much gone and a recoat is about the only way to go, but I don't think you can just re gel-coat fiberglass. I think you have to paint it with something else.
You can re-gel fiberglass no problem...

Looks great! I love that it looks like it just rolled off the factory floor. Keep us updated on your progress.

I need a line on finding centercaps for these wheels.

I'm not positive but, I think that they're American Racing wheels. The center caps, however, I don't think are AR. I think they were made to fit on there.

My father says that this thing had a set of 'odd' rims on it when he bought them and that he came up with this set (which looks nearly stock) and had to figure out how to make the center caps work. I mean, I could get them rechromed but, I'd rather buy new... and have these wheels powder coated.

Thoughts?

BTW, thanks for all of the kudos guys... it's in good shape but has it's flaws. Mechanically, it has a VERY VERY slow oil drip (like two drips per month). I haven't crawled under to isolate as it's not really causing me much heartache. Other than that, it's STroNG.

Thanks for the offer... that's a great resource!

Thanks again!

I can't believe you can't find centercaps for those wheels.

They used to be pretty common fare at about any wheel and tire dealer. You could get them in chromed steel or plastic.

I may actually have some in the garage or attic over at my parents' house left over from one of my trucks back in the day.

It might be cheaper just to buy new wheels than to buy new centercaps. White steelie wagon wheels only cost like $50 a wheel, if that, and I'm sure AR will try to screw you over on the centers...

$21.99 ea. at A.Z.
(get 12")

That and

Edited to add:
Personal note, I hate AZ you can probably get them cheaper at another auto store.

Or if you have time to wait and want to spend a few pennies more.......

$4.99 ea at A.Z.

Those 2 things and some muffler clamps and you'll be riight back to the 70's classic sound.
Mount them as close to the headers/manifold as possiable, take it to the car wash, sit in the bay at 2000-2500 rpm for a minute jump out and spray water up them as fast as possiable to bust the fiberglass for maximum cackle during de acceleration.

Edited to add:
BTW I hate AZ you can probably get them cheaper else where.......

If you have time order a set of these!!!!

There will be no Cherry Bombs on it. LOL! That's final.

I do, however, like the aggressive sound that the 'no muffler' sound produces but, by the same token, I want something that will do a little something for me on the backside.

I'm not looking for opinions -- and don't take that the wrong way -- ... more so, I'm looking for a temporary cheap fix that may already have bent pipe in a 'kit' or similar.

I'm not opposed to using clamps and such -- this isn't a high performance monster -- but, by the same token, I have no means to tack it in to place so, any suggestions may be best chosen if they're something I can do without a welder...

I may look into new wheels. I have a feeling that powder coating the current ones will actually end up costing more in the long run.... that said, I can dodge having to find center caps too.

Any suggestions?

Have you heard Cherry Bombs new turbo mufflers?

I'm thinking about buying one and clamping it on the F150 just to hear how they sound.

as far as whels, I like those on it alot. I'd paint them black with black centers.

Those white spoke wheels are not that expensive if you decide to buy new and want to keep the factory look. You'll still have to buy centers though. I had a set blasted and just painted years ago and they held up fine. Back in the 80's, powder coating was really not an option.

Have you tried any wheel dealers in person or have you just been looking on the net?

On the exhaust front... an exhaust shop fabrication is going to be a lot cheaper than trying to find a bolt on system that you can install in your garage. You may as well bite the bullet and throw a set of headers on there while you are at it. You can get a set of those for that engine without taking out a second mortgage on the house pretty easily and they really help on motors like that one.

I've just been surfing for the wheels... haven't really taken it to the next level on the search.

Blasting and spraying these probably wouldn't be terribly expensive, would it? That still leaves me hunting for centers though... or re-chroming. I have an inside track on a chrome shop but, not sure if I could get them to do it for me -- it's a hydraulic shop where I used to be the 'clean up' boy (aka: grunt).

Blasting and painting should be a relatively cheap proposition. Like someone else said, those white wheels are pretty inexpensive to purchase new as well.

I haven't been in a wheel shop in a long time but I think you should be able to find those centers pretty easily. I know that having things chromed is not exactly cheap on this end of the state.
