Good news for Ford fans. An independent study reported in the Detroit News says new pickup buyers are ready to embrace Ford’s all-new aluminum F-150.

And most folks don’t seem to care if their truck is made out of aluminum or steel, as long as it still gets the job done right. The study was conducted by UBS, a global research firm that interviewed 800 truckers last month.

“52 percent of pickup owners who intend to buy a new truck in the next 12 months said they’re extremely likely to consider the new aluminum-body F-150,” the newspaper reports. And another 30% were somewhat likely to purchase one according to Dow Jones Business News.

The aluminum reduced the weight about 700lbs.
In 2004 the weight went up about 500lbs. So, it may be lighter than mine.

I find it interesting that Ford would consider a Toyota Tacoma - arguably a small or mid-size truck at best - a competitor for the new F-150. Maybe they never heard of a Tundra? Definitely not an apples to apples comparison.
