The New 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and Lightweight Frame
Tougher and lighter; that is the theme of the 2015 Ford F-150. In order to meet that Ford had to introduce a smaller EcoBoost powerplant into the F-150 to decrease weight further while not dropping the horsepower. Ford gives us a taste on how they did that with the engine and some engineering.
One of the bolder claims on the new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is the V6 economy with V8 capability and performance. Well, at 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque, they are certainly on the way there.
Even with this 2.7-liter engine, the 2015 F-150 will have an 8500-lbs towing capability and a payload of 2250-lbs. You could certainly call that V8 like.

The fuel economy is thanks to the auto start-stop, which will turn off the engine when you are at a stop and immediately turn it back on when you’re ready to roll away.
There is also the use of the new high-strength steel in the lightweight frame and “military-grade” aluminum alloy that reduces the F-150 by 700-lbs and helps up the capacity for hauling by that much. The added strength of the frame and “smart” engineering are credited by Ford, as well.
