2015 Ford F-150 Boosts Better Fuel Economy

Ford’s F-series of pickup has been the most popular truck line almost since it hit dealer showrooms in the late 1940s. Over the years, innovation in design was one of the main reasons for that popularity. Another reason was, and has been, that Ford offers buyers more options packages to choose from than their competitors, with there often being upwards of 20 different variations to choose from, even before the colors are chosen. The 2015 F-150 lineup has been simplified, instead of ten models to choose from like last year, 2015 buyers have five choices.

The F-150 compares quite favorably to the Dodge 1500 series, both in size and pricing. Both vehicles are in the half- to three-quarter-ton range. Pricing for both is in the mid-$20,000 range, with the Ford costing about $2,000 more than the Dodge.

However, the Ford more than makes up for this with its EcoBoost V-6 engine producing almost 100 more horsepower than the Dodge’s. Ford is being quiet about actual fuel economy numbers for the 2015 F-150, but rumors are that they’ll be better than the Chevy Silverado which offers more impressive mileage than the 17 mpg of the RAM 1500.

Ford reps have been promising that Ford has dedicated itself to winning the fuel economy fight against its truck competition. In fact, during the reveal of the 2015 models, they reported that this F-150 will actually help Ford’s Corporate Fuel Economy Average. This year’s F-150 is the lightest yet, with weight savings everywhere in the design process, with military-grade aluminum taking the place of heavier steel throughout the body and frame.

Ford is famous for the number of available options packages. There are three engines, five body trim packages, and ten color choices to choose from. Dodge gives you more color choices, less body trim options, and the same number of less efficient engines. Each of the comparable engine/transmission selections give Ford the edge when it comes to load and towing capacities.
