Getting raped by shop - multi. issues/venting
(see main question below for the short)
So I let our 2015 EB 3.5 be my son's main vehicle a couple years ago. We recently had a shop do the oil and coolant fittings at the turbos, and they noticed VCGs needed replacing, so they did that as well as replace battery (I told my son to tell them no but they did it anyway). Of course the bill for all this was huge. Ok . . . it's been paid off for a while and these are necessary items.
In the days following, the thing was leaking oil all over the driveway. Shop said "It's gotta be bad turbos" but my son had just gotten pictures while putting in catch can that showed inside tubing - clean as a whistle. It was the VCGs. Shop claims to have used all Motorcraft parts but then said "Oh, the gaskets must have some play" Sorry, either you're lying or you used bargain basement VCGs from the slums of China..
So here's where I lose my cool . . .
Truck is back at the same shop for them to fix their mistake, and I get a note from my son a couple days later that they're telling him the transmission died on their lot and needs replacement!!!
I thought it was some practical joke at first, but it wasn't. It's hard to believe there are shops that have been around for a while that do this kind of thing. Obviously they think I **** Benjamins. I know the trannys go eventually, and my son probably drives more aggressively than most, but statistically speaking, the odds are not in the shops favor. I'd driven the truck several times in the last couple months and didn't notice anything wacky with shifting. Son says he has noticed a few hard shifts from time to time but nothing consistent.
QUESTION: What is the expected life of these transmissions? This is a 2015 EB 3.5 and we had it up at FPS for a tune a couple years ago, though I think the tune has been unloaded for a while due to gas prices.
The son will be "verifying" the state of transmission today hopefully, and in the mean time I'm going to call around other places. I'm sure there were a few neutral drops that caused whatever damage currently exists, but not sure how much of this can be confirmed as having occurred recently. Is Automotive Forensics even a thing? If so, I'm sure price is on par with just buying a new vehicle . . . . . .
Thanks for reading!
