Towing Question
Towing Question
I currently have a 3/4 ton diesel. I really do not tow often enough to justify owning the truck. My question is, can I safely tow a camper weighing ~9200lbs and is 34 1/2' long with an F150 with the ecoboost and 3.55 gears? I know I will not pull it in the mountains but on relatively flat to somewhat hilly roads. Any real world feedback is appreciated.
I wouldn't even try to tow anything that big with an F-150! It could probably "pull" that weight, but the truck's suspension, axles and wheels would not be up to the additional load that would be put on them by the trailer tongue. If the trailer weighs 9200#, the tongue weight would be something between 920-1380#. That additional weight, plus the weight of the Weigh Distributing Hitch (WDH) you would need (about 100#) would seriously overload your tow vehicle's running gear. You need a SuperDuty class truck to tow your trailer.

You'd need to have the Max tow with the HDPP frame and the right set up and tires to think about doing it. technically you'd be within the range of that truck. 11,900 for the 4X4 and 12,200 for the 2X4 are rated there. But thats ratings. Fact is you can never have too much truck to tow something.
