Ordered July and still no VIN thus no build date only a confirmation of the order. Dealer suggested I call Ford who in turn suggested I talk to the dealer. TFL truck post quotes a Ford email stating that 15,000 2017 trucks equipped with the 3.5 Ecoboost and 10 speed transmission are being held at the Dearborn and Kansas City plants for retrofits. Dealer denies this is the case and say delays are due to the Kansas City shutdown and holiday vacations. Trucks they ordered for stock do have VINs so I am pretty sure I can't depend on what the dealer says. Given the run around when I'm trying to buy a truck raises concerns what happens after I get the truck and need service. Since I don't seem to be the only one in this position, it would be nice if someone at Ford would let us know the reasons it's going to take some of us over 24 weeks to get a truck we've ordered.

And that is less than Super Duty and Transit. Same as Explorer and Expedition.

Also a note from this site: "5- F150 production start up is 09/26/16 for Dearborn Truck Plant and 10/18/16 for Kansas City Truck Plant."

So counting from November 5th that was only 18 days from startup for a KC build. Give it more time or look on the lots if you don't want the wait.
I currently own a Tundra. I ordered a 2017 Lariat July 27th. Dealer submitted the order August 13. according to TFL Truck, 15,000 trucks are on hold for a retrofit. The dealer claims that isn't the case and blames the delay on the 1 week shutdown of the Kansas City plant plus year end vacation shutdowns. Has told me not to expect the truck until February 1 at the earliest. That would be about 26 weeks from the date I ordered it. He also suggested I call Ford, which I did. They referenced me back to the dealer saying they didn't know why the truck was delayed. My concern is that if this is the way Ford treats you when you are trying to buy a truck what happens when you need something done on it.

The only trucks that aren't shipping yet are the Gen2 3.5 Ecoboosts w/10 speed transmissions. There are plenty of 2017's on the dealer lots with 5.0, 2.7 Eco and n/a 3.5 all with 6 speed transmissions.
I doubt it will take until February before the Gen2 Ecoboost w/10 speed to hit the lots. But considering it's a brand new engine and transmission I'd rather have them get it right rather than rush them out.

That was a pre-order before the scheduled production start date. On pre-orders I don't start counting weeks until the 1st day of production. Production start date was 09/26/16. It's been 65 days since 9/26. 65 days / 7 days in a week = 9.2 weeks since production start up.

This is normal. There's nothing preventing you from buying a truck on the lot. You wanted to special order a truck. I understand that. But there is a 10-12 week lead time. So you're not allowing enough time yet. If it starts getting 13 to 14 weeks, then come back and raise your concern.

On the other hand on the Toyota that you currently own, Toyota doesn't let you special order, you have to take what's on the lot. Please be patient on special orders and allow enough time. The hold for retrofit doesn't mean anything. They have done that in previous years. Waiting is what you have to do when you don't want what's on the lot and special order.

Thanks bluegreensf150. Not sure why Ford or my dealer couldn't have told me that. I don't mind buying off the lot but from what I've read online, retail (orders) take precedent over stock. If something shows up on the lot close to what I want, I have no problem buying that. However, my dealer definitely told me not to expect before February 1 at the earliest. Hopefully he was just trying to lower expectations.

Finally got my VIN and a build date of the first week of January. Should have the truck by early February. Not sure why it took so long but all is good.
