5.0 gas mileage
5.0 gas mileage
Ok guys, I just got back from a trip that was 700 miles round trip. I have a 2015 Lariat 5.0 with a level, stock tires, and almost 4000 miles. So far in the City I'm getting around 14 mpg and on this trip I got 15.5 mpg and they were almost all highway miles. Am I missing something? My 2005 with the 5.4 and 100,000 miles got better mpg than this 2015. Someone please tell me I'm an idiot and missing something obvious?!!!
I usually get 20 to 21.5 running 75 on the highway. My truck has averaged 19.1 in 24,000 miles. It's a Supercrew, 2 wheel drive with 3.55s.

Is it brand new? Mine seemed to steadily go up on the third tank now. It is lower than the display shows though by over a mile per gallon.
Better than my 5.7 Tundra but I was expecting more. I will be patient and see how it does as it breaks in.

It only has 3800 miles or so. I was on the gas a little bit I don't think that would have a 4 mpg effect on it. It has the 3.31 gears and is 4 wheel drive but I didn't use the 4x4 at all. I guess I will have to do a little more driving, maybe at lower speeds to see how it plays out. I absolutely love the truck but I'm a little shocked so far with the mileage!
Leveling Kit
Fox 2.0 Performance Shocks
Bakflip F1
Westin Contour Bull Bar
Rigid Industries 30" RDS
are messing with your aerodynamics, drag and rolling resistance at speed.
You probably lost a couple mpgs there and by going on the gas you lost a couple more.

That mileage sounds really low. I have the same setup ( 3.31s, 4x4, 5.0) on an SCab, and I get 21-22 mpg on the highway and 19-20 around town. On an average tankful, with about 50/50 highway and around town, I usually see about 20mpg. This is at 70-75 on the highway and typical rural/suburban driving. This is about .5-1 mpg less than what the truck says I'm getting.
That's what I can't figure out. I agree the added items will add some wind resistance but 5mpg lower? I did the same trip last year in my 2005 with all the same equipment plus larger/heavier tires and got 16.5. I did have the bed full and 2 adults and 2 kids inside but this was the same scenario last year.
I see you have the lift from the other thread. How high is it set?
I would also remove the bullbar.
If you end up putting bigger tires on it there is only a couple choices that weigh about the same as stock. I did one of them and over this tank didnt notice a noticable change in mpg.

Did you ever take any "baseline" mpg figures on your truck before you added your mods to it?
My old 97 F150 with the 5.4 and 3.55 gears got better mpg's than what you are getting and that was with 255,000 miles on it..
My 13 Eco that is totally stock, gets better mpg's than you are now, and I've got 3.73 gears and on the hwy, I'll get 21 mpg on long straight runs.
Good luck and I hope you find what's going on, because it should be getting better mpg's than that IMO..
