Yep, you sure have to be careful with dealer oil changes. Viscosity, filter, amount. I've read some nightmare stories on other forums. One old Tundra boy - dealer didn't even put oil in after a so called change! Burned his engine to smithereens on a brand new truck, first oil change. Last I read on that forum, the old boy was having a hard time with dealer and Toyota. Oh me, I've seen some messes. Check'em boys, check'em out real good.

If it calls for 7.7, I wouldn't hesitate to put 8 in my personal vehicle. If 9.6 ounces of additional oil ruins an engine, there were problems to start with!

Just an update: 7.7 quarts in a 5.0 put's the dipstick level at the half-way point in the hash marks. Bottom of the hash marks is MIN, top of the hash marks is MAX:

Good. I used all 8 quarts in mine and never looked back.

I have mine changed at a dealer and they show 8 quarts on the invoice, It is right on the top mark on the dip stick when I check it.

This is the way every Ford I have owned since the 80's has worked. A fill with the recommended amount brings the level to mid-point on the hashmarks.

My oil change was a breeze. Only problem is my running boards are lower than my previous truck, and my big ol belly bottomed out against it!
