Wouldn't exactly call the 5.4L "less than impressive" considering when the engine came out nearly 20 years ago Of course it would be considered obsolete by the engines that are in the trucks now. That's why they were replaced obviously. I would hope technology progressed in that time.

You people seem to forget that most truck engines until the 2000's had under 200 HP and they did just fine...

Gear them low and let em pull
but those trucks weren't/aren't regulated for mpg quite yet.....

but yes, they've gone to hell with the power. everybodys power hungry, they get it, it usually goes to their heads and they usually hurt/kill/near miss someone.

theres no need for all the power they put out now. if they'd go a bit less power nuts, they'd do even better on mpg.

I don't miss the 6.2 per se, it was overkill. I do miss the brute simplicity and reliability of it that you can't get in any f150 engine now, though the 5.0 ain't bad. I'd love a replica of the 6.2 downsized to a 4.X or so

I think ford should go the other way and up size the 5.0 they already have the parts to do it. The 5.0 is based off the modular engine platform and so is the 5.8 out of the gt500. Ford could just slap the coyote heads on a 5.8 shortblock and get a N/A 5.8 putting out around 380-400 hp and probably 425-450 tq. More than enough for any half ton and adequate for a superduty.

good for a superduty. too much for a half ton, especially with the aluminum biz. 250 hp, 300 tq is more than enough for most half tons. a big long wheelbase 4x4 maybe a little extra.

if both for and customers weren't so power hungry, mpg would be easier to get, and they'd be more reliable etc. but of course that last point is a no no too, cause then they can't make $$$ fixing it.

The 5.4 I owned was less than impressive. My sister's Kia SUV V6 felt stronger. I owned the truck for 8 years, and I loved it. Just never cared much for the motor.

From a monetary/business/EPA, etc. standpoint, should they have kept the 6.2? No. Would I have liked them to? Yes.

Everything is relative. If you can have a truck that's faster than a Mustang GT from 10 years ago, why wouldn't you?

i also think it would be cool if they mad a v8 ecoboost i just dont like the whole v6 thing even if it was a small v8 like a 4.0 would be cool and i imagine they could still be very efficient

No offense intended, Llama. My 5.4 was a '00 2V, so I'm sure your 3V is a substantial improvement.

KMAC, this is totally off topic within this thread, but you finally got the lift on!! I must've missed the update. Looks outstanding buddy

Care to explain why? I understand some of the 60* GM V6s sounded pretty tinny and left a bad taste in folks mouths but there's a bunch of other really good other V6s on the market.

Turbos are actually nothing more than an engine heart driven air compressor. They use the expanding hot air that is being exhausted and use this wasted energy to turn a compressor wheel. The compressed air is then ducted back into the engine to boost cylinder pressure. I know some of the early applications were less than perfect, but the bugs have been worked out since then.
