The 6.2L from the SVT Raptor has not been brought forward to the next generation of the Ford F150, seemingly leaving the V8 duties up to the 5.0L mill for the foreseeable future. this means that the most powerful engine from the 2014 F150 lineup is absent, leaving those who want big power no option but to build their trucks after buying them.

With that in mind, we come to our Question of the Week:
Do you think that Ford should have continued to offer the 6.2L V8 for the 2015 F150 pickup…even if without a Raptor?

No need. The 3.5L EB can handle it.

 

If Ford wanted to make a high performance version of the EB they would only need to swap the K03s for K04s, add larger inlet piping, intercooler and fueling. Just doing that would blow away any other truck motor on the market. The best thing is those two turbos are interchangeable in their mounting. It would be an easy swap for them to do.

 

Just wait for the next gen 3.5EB. Imagine scaling the 2.7L up to a 3.5L

Doing what I listed would be an easy 100-150 Hp bump. The torque numbers would increase about like that too. The bigger turbos will pump more air at a higher boost level but at a lower temp. The rest of the engine is already capable of a lot more power.

No, it does good in the F-150, but the 3.5tt does it better. The 6.2 is fine in a super duty. Ford need a 6.8 v-10 replacement for the big trucks. When is THAT coming?

 

i cant see owning a full size truck without a v8 should have kept the 6.2 ive driven an f150 with a 6.2 a 5.0 and a 3.5 the ecoboost was the least satisfying to drive it sounds like i was in my wifes fusion!! pretty lame it doesnt get any better fuel mileage than a 5.0 anyways

 

Eh, I don't really see the 6.2 as a necessity for the F-150. I think it's great they have a better gas V8 option for the Super Duty than the old less than impressive 5.4, but with the 5.0 and the Ecoboost engine options, I feel like the 6.2 would be a superfluous engine option. Especially now that in 2015 there will be two Ecoboost options in addition to the 5.0 and 3.5 NA base V6. So keep the 6.2 going in the Super Duty, and let the 5.0 and Ecoboost handle the half ton powertrain. They are both more than capable.

That's not really the point. It's supposed to either tow more and get similar fuel economy, or tow the same and get better fuel economy. When comparing fuel economy, compare the 3.5L EB to the 6.2L. You know, the engines with the same tow ratings.

 

6.2L is cool and all, but Ford has to keep the avg MGP's up. That wouldn't do if the big V8 was available in the F150

If Ford wanted to keep MPG up, they would offer a 5.0 in the super duty... properly geared it would be fine.

You people seem to forget that most truck engines until the 2000's had under 200 HP and they did just fine...
