I was upgrading my headlight bulbs to LED last night. While I had the headlight assembly off, something caught my eye...there were tabs all around just the headlight lens, and it looked as if it is removable.
My lenses look in rough shape. I did a treatment with this...
but it only got me so far. It didn't have the desired results, and it certainly didn't make the headlights look like new again.
This morning, I got to googling, and I just am not finding any replacement lenses for our era of F150. Seen some for other eras, and other trucks, but not my beloved '09 F150. I've been shown in the past that my search skills aren't the greatest, so I thought I'd ask here to see if I'm missing something.
That restoration kit is missing something that would make it a lot better. After wet sanding it by hand, before you use the PlastX, you should use a polishing compound such as Meguiars M105 with the wool bonnet. Then you use PlastX, but with a foam bonnet.
GLC I took your advice about the extra step. I did my truck and my wife's Nissan Pathfinder 2014 at the same time. Did the same steps. Hers look like they did in the showroom. Mine look better than they did but still not like new. I'm guessing this is because my lights are five years older, I don't know. Anyway, thank you for the advice. It seemed to work out well.
Here's my results from last night's effort. An improvement, but still not showroom. My arms are killing me (also did my wife's car, which did turn out showroom). My shoulders need me to table these efforts until next Spring.
Not necessary if you PlastX them on a regular basis. PlastX does have UV protection in it.
That was not my experience. I used the Meguiars headlight restore kit on my 2005 Dodge Magnum's headlights. They were very cloudy and the kit did a great job with them looking like new afterwards. The kit includes PlastX as the final coating. But, the headlights started fading again in less than 6 months. The kit claims it will keep the headlights looking good for a year which was not my experience.
this is 3 step maguires.. they were beat up and yellowed i got them from Kijiji for $30 i disliked the chrome lights with matte black grill
took about a half hour for both and thats 6 months after cleaning them the kit comes with 2 compounds 3 pads and a can of clear sealer spray
