I’ve found a 2010 F-150 King Ranch 4X2
with 110,000 miles on it for $14,400. Truck looks absolutely spotless, but the 5.4L engine scares me. Can I get some opinions on if you believe if this is a good deal, and should I take the chance on the 5.4L engine? Have always heard nightmare stories on them, but from what I have read after 2008 they are pretty decent engines.
Also, do these trucks come with towing packages? Sucks it isn’t a 4x4.
I have two buddies with Coyotes that burn oil like crazy, my '07 doesn't. I've seen more than one 5.4 pass 200K. I've seen guys not even change plugs until it's missing like an old hit & miss engine. Highest mileage I've seen unopened is 417,xxx.
I agree, a 2009-2010 would be a nice truck especially with the update interior and 6r80.
As Manual said, get it down closer to 12-13 and I'd jump on it if it checks out. Interior and truck appears quite clean.
I'm a 2wd guy so I'd be all over that truck personally haha.
Look nice, but if you really prefer a 4x4, keep looking. There are plenty of good deals on F-150's out there. I spent 9 months searching for my 11th gen F-150 FX4 last year, holding out for what I truly wanted and needed. Do your research and go with your gut on when it's time to pull the trigger. Good luck in your search.
If the owner will let you, take it to your mechanic and have them go over the vehicle with
a fine tooth comb so to speak. Check the body panels, doors etcetera for filler and such.
As others have written 12 five that would be my limit too. With the extra money saved you'll be washing
and waxing that black truck till the day you sell it. Just kidding with you, that's a beautiful rig!
Things to inspect before buying the 2010 F-150 King Ranch
I own a 2009 F-150 King Ranch 4x4 edition. I bought it used in mid-
2012 with 78,000 miles on it. It was extremely well taken care of. I perform all mechanical and electrical issues on everything I own, it saves me tons of cash.. I also own and operate a paintless dent repair business, so I know quite knowlegable about most vehicles,, especially trucks and SUV's, which is 90% of my work. The biggest issues I had with my King Ranch was broken exhaust studs, leaking AC system, and rusting cab corners. Also check the seal around the third brake light. They'll leak and stain your seats. It's an easy fix with 1/4" high density window sealant foam for about $3.00. I replaced my exhaust manifolds with JBA stainless steel shorty headers and all stainless hardware. It was a major improvement in torque, and a little in horsepower. I pull a 32 foot Flagstaff V-Lite camper and I could easily tell the difference before and after header installation. I only use this truck to pull my camper, so it's stored during the winter season. As for the AC system, the AC compressor started coming apart at the seams and leaked extensively. I replaced the compressor and AC condenser and pressure checked the evaporator. Then I pulled a vacuum on the system overnight and recharged the system. Good to go! As for the cab corners, I paid $800 to replace both sides. If you inspect the bodies of F-150 trucks (excluding aluminum bodies) the cab corners are the weaknesses. Check the operation of the sunroof. The tracks are cheap plastic and break easy. Considering I rarely used mine, the tracks broke. New tracks are around $60.00. The headliner must be dropped and sunroof assembly removed to replace them. I drop headliners all the time so it wasn't a big deal for me. As for the engine, if it's not rattling due to cam phasers out of whack, it's good to go. ONLY USE 5W20 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IN THE 5.4 LITER ENGINE. It keeps those phasers clean and passages clear. Mine rattles once in a great while, but it goes away. Probably from being stored for so long. It's too bad the King Ranch you are considering to buy is not four wheel drive. If you don't live in Northwest Illinois like I do, and somewhere in a warm climate, it's no big deal. 4x4 trucks in Texas like climates are not as popular as two wheel drive. Here in Northwest Illinois, if it's not a four wheel drive truck, it won't hold it's value as well and be harder to resell. I would offer $12,500 for the truck. All the dealer can say is no. $13,500 would be my top dollar. Besides, you may need to save a few bucks for repairs on things like I mentioned. I am sending you the NADA values on a 2010 King Ranch 2x2 and 4x4 options. The dealer most likely bought or accepted as trade the truck you are looking at for at least 25% below trade in value, I perform PDR services with alot of new and used car dealers, I know about what they pay for vehicles, either bought outright or traded in.

$11-$12 thousand is what you really want to spend on it. The 3 Valve motor is meh, but it's not a deal breaker if you can get the price right. Get an independent mechanic to help you check it; have him hook up his scan tool to check for ACTUAL OIL PRESSURE during the test drive. Ford's gauge clusters are NOTORIOUSLY INACCURATE. Oil pressure should be at least 17 psi at IDLE and top out around 25-35 when your foot's in it. If you have 10 psi or lower at ANY point during the inspection or test drive; WALK AWAY. I'm resurrecting/bulletproofing an 04; (first year of the 3-valve) and let me tell you; you do NOT want to EVER have to go through this repair EVER; it SUCKS.

Thanks, Brayden.
I paid 14,450 for my 2011 xlt Supercrew, 3.7 with 97,450 W/Ford Motor Platinum Warranty. The truck has an HD Tow Package. I’ve been very pleased with my purchase. We towed a 30’ rv 1,000 miles last summer in July and things went well. You can get the sticker for the truck you’re looking at for $10 online. The link to purchase is posted in the forum. Hope this helps.
