4x4 issues

Hey Guys my 2010 F150 lariat is having an intermittent issue. When I turn the 4x4 **** to 4 high sometimes the check 4x4 light comes on. But if I shut the truck off and start it again it will complete the shift and work properly.

thoughts?
thanks
Ryan

Most likely the electronic shifting motor and mechanism in the X-fer case is beginning to stick. They're pretty easy to take off (three screws IIRC) and free up. Also there is a plastic bumper in the shifting mechanism that flattens out with age and that lets the mechanism move too far and then the computer loses track of it and can't tell if it's shifted or not so it generates an error. The bumper can be replaced with a piece (IIRC) 5/16" fuel line. I've posted on here several times about this problem, you should be able to search and find the threads. They have links to longer articles about this.
