Tailgate Exchange

Question: I have a 2013 F-150 XLT 5.0 4X2 and a friend of mine has the same truck and color except his has the tailgate with ladder built into it. His truck is totaled and will give me his tailgate but not sure if it will fit my truck. Does anyone know if it will? As I stated above, both trucks are the same except for tailgates. Thanks in advance

Yes it will fit. Does his truck or yours have the back up camera?

No....no vehicles have rear camera. Sure hope you are right cause I would like to get my hands on that tailgate. I figure I come to this site as many know what they are talking about on here. I already was told no it would not fit, but then again, I asked someone that has his head up his rear end....LOL

Well since neither has the camera, that means no wiring to deal with. Just unhook the tailgate cables, then open the gate to about a 45 degree angle, lift out the passenger side first. Swap gates, install is just the reverse of removal.

Be prepared for a bloody heavy tailgate! (At least the one with the step built in to it). I took mine off my truck a while back and was lucky to get it to my workbench without dropping it. I think it was MUCH heavier than the one that was on my old 2005 King Ranch.

(Maybe I'm just getting wimpy in my old age).

Thanks 05RedFX4 for the info and JackandJanet I hear ya on that. I know those tailgates are very heavy. Had to remove the one on my old F150 (1998) and it was hard. So I can imagine how heavy this one will be.....LOL and yes old age has a lot to being wimpy. Mentally I'm in my 20's.....physically I'm in my 60's and my body tells me every day to take it easy....LOL!!!!!

Don't forget to swap the handles/locks out so your key will still work on the tailgate
