So 900 bucks, and figure another 150 for head bolts and gaskets and such. That would be my go to plan if the piston survived unscathed

I would try for a used head instead of buying a new one and put the price difference towards timing chains. That would be the cheapest way out. It also would depend on what shape the rest of the motor is in. Labor for the head should be a little bit less than swapping in a new motor but at this point he's already gonna spend a good chunk of money. Spending the extra and getting a low or 0 time motor might be worth it if the rest of the truck is worth keeping.

I want to thank to all of the contributors of this post. I already take a decision:

Hi Folks! Thanks you very much for all your input. I receive some nice tips and a lot of options over the table.

I almost take the rout to change only the head, and I maybe take that route but as I can be sure if no damage was make to the cylinder before disassembly, the bill can get up ap and at the final of the day I'll get a very nice #2 Cylinder with a 136,XXX miles engine and also I will always have in my mind if my engine got a only 1 defective valve or maybe a bunch of defective valves inside the motor.

Buy a rebuilt motor really it's going to be to expensive for me not only because the engine, also the labor it's going to be fairly expensive vs. the option I take.

I found a very nice 2011 4X2 Expedition at a junkyard with only 38,XXX miles and I got a very nice deal in labor if they make the swap themself.

I saw some workers doing swaps in other vehicles and they look like they made a nice job. They are going to finish next week and I hope I didn't take the wrong decision and hopefully get a nice truck again ready to fill with a couple hundreds of thousand miles.

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate.

So, the 2011 Expedition has a 3V 5.4? I thought Ford went to the 5.0 in 2011?

They did in the F150, but not in the Expedition. The 5.4 3V was the only Expy engine from 2005 through 2014, in 2015 they switched to the 3.5EB as the only engine choice.

Ford keep the 5.4 3V in the Expedition up to 2014. I search for a 2014 Expy in order to take ine of the newer motors but all of them has at least double mileage in my area.

I hope I had the time / money / knowledge to implant and ecoboost or a 6.2L to my truck but that is not feasible.

Truck it's ready!

Hi Guys! I picked up my truck at the shop. I make the road test and I found the motor it's running fine and strong I feel it more peppy than the old one at this time I'm happy with the new motor. This same day I travel from Austin to Houston and I found the truck has a very slightly hesitation when I ask for a little gas or go for a small hill.

If you ask me whats going wrong I think it's a spark plug, coil or even a ban injector but I don't have any diagnostic in order to isolate the problem. There is no Check engine light on and the fail it's so imperceptible I'm very sure there is not going to trigger any CEL.

From Houston next day back to Austin and yesterday from Austin to Monterrey that means the truck has a little more than 1000 miles with the younger and left the truck at the shop for diagnose is not a feasible option.

Right now I'm on my own to track the problem. How may I make a proper diagnostic?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks GLC, Patman, Wookie, Labnerd and Roadie for your contribution to this tread.

Congratulations on getting your truck back on the road!!!!

It surely would have been nice to change out the spark plugs while the engine was out. You may want to ask because the shop may have done so. From all the forums I've read I'd guess it is most likely a cop. But I would change the plugs if they were not changed by the shop. Your engine doesn't have the breakable two piece plugs I think. I also would put a couple bottles of Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA or two bottles of Chevron techron in a tank of gas and run it through to help clean the injectors.

So you're getting a slight hesitation at partial throttle? What happens when you smash the gas and go WOT? Is the hesitation like a big or the terrible throttle response built into the PCM? What scan tools or diagnostic equipment do you have?

The hesitation it's at partial throttle, If I smash the gas, you'll eat the dust

Yesterday I travel from Monterrey MX to Laredo Tx. Monterrey the same afternoon most of the trip at 85-90mph and the truck runs just fine.

I'll appreciate your help to isolate the problem Wookie.
