F150 with Camper and Boat

Hi all, new to the forum but have been driving an F150 for 10 years. My current is a 2012 F150 with the 3.6 Ecoboost, 4 door short bed, 4x4. I tow a 2013 wakeboard boat and would like to put a Palomino SS-550 in the bed. The boat and trailer is around 4,000lbs and the camper is about 1,600lbs. Will the truck handle that if I add airbags and a leaf?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Jed

The tongue weight of the trailer and the weight of all cargo and people in the truck and bed except for the driver should not exceed the max payload on the door jamb sticker.

To clarify the above statement, you should check and see what your tongue weight and compare that to your GVRW

Will the truck handle it? Sure
Will it be able to pull it? Sure
Will it be able to stop?
Will it be safe?
Will it be legal?

I think a leaf and air bags would help, air bags alone might be enough .... but there's braking and sway control to consider.

That 1600 pound camper ...... does that include your "stuff" that will accumulate and passengers?

Is that hitch set up with equalizer bars or is it just dropped on the ball?

Looking in the owner's book, seems that what you propose is maybe within the limits ... but not with a lot of reserve capacity left. It's gonna feel "loaded" for sure.

I'm wondering if the oversized tires will help at all.

Considering that the dry weight of that camper is #1600.. I doubt your yellow sticker has the payload for the dry camper alone?

I've got a max tow F150 with #1900 payload and that would put my truck to it's limits with just the camper.. Much less a ski boat too..

But, it's up to you in the end... As said.. The truck will "handle" it, but be overloaded doing it.. How do you feel in that situation? Sure, the bags and springs will keep you from sagging, but it'll still be overloaded.

Good luck!

Mitch

Thanks for the input. Yeah, it would definitely be pushed right to its limits. I just can't justify buying a 3/4 ton to haul a camper a few times a year. Guess I'll stick with the tent!

Depending on where you're going, you might be able to go there, drop the boat, and then rent a camper trailer for the weekend?

my first thought was "holy crap thats a crazy hitch"
but then I realized it was a sign post behind the truck.

There is no way you can handle the camper and the boat on that truck. It would not be safe no matter what modifications you make.

You can't even (legally) use the camper by itself - your max payload is 1440 lbs
