2012 tailgate replacement cost?

Just had it stolen. Anyone know what the replacement cost will be with a camera? Old one had the step and camera, I only want the camera.

Might be worth it to check your local Craig'slist. I've seen newer ones for as little as $200.

Do you not lock your tailgate??

If you buy a replacement tailgate, you'll spend over two large for all the parts needed plus paint work as ford sell it in pieces. You need the gate itself plus the hinges, latch, linkage, emblems, camera, plastic tailgate cap, and paint work. Or just get one from craigslist for a couple bills and have it painted to match you truck. Who knows, you may get lucky and find your own tailgate. Stolen gates are usually taken to replace a damaged or stolen gate or to make money, and about 95% of the ones taken for money end up on craigslist.

Make sure you lock the next one, and not just the handle. Buy a hinge lock and use it. They can punch out the lock cylinder and replace the handle for 50 bucks, but with a hinge lock, they're not getting your tailgate. This is the one I have.

Can you turn it in to your insurance? Just a month ago some jack wad smacked my drivers mirror and broke the housing and the mirror glass. Since my truck has power heated and power fold mirrors, the drivers mirror assy was $795 from tasca. My insurance wrote it up as 1400 to replace. Since I have a 1K deductible, I took the 400 and just replaced the glass and repaired the housing.

I use a stainless hose clamp that I tack welded a security head screw on.
