i havent post since 2011 when i sold my 2008 lariat. This week picking up a 2012 screw fx4 in tuxedo black. The fender lips are unpainted. Is it only Lariats and Ltd that came painted?
Wondering if anyone has done this little upgrade and were you pleased with that. Also advice where to find some takeoffs maybe. Tried fleabay.. theres only 2015 ones on there.

 

Lariat and higher end models did indeed come with painted fender flares/lips. FX4 and below models did not. It is very possible to remove them, sand them smooth, do proper paint/prep work and paint/clear them yourself, or have a paint shop do the work for a higher fee. Quality can be the same either way. I spray painted a grill for my 2007 truck for the day I sell it and take off the Harley grill, and used automotivetouchup.com's paint with Eastwood 2k aerosol clear. Great stuff. Just tons of preparation and wetsanding following up with polishing.

There should be plenty of take-off flares for these trucks around now. Good luck in your search and happy painting.

By far one of my favorite upgrades. But my opinion is to shop ebay or craigslist for a take-off. Sanding and painting just doesn't turn out as nice and could be just as costly. It's an easy install which shouldn't take more than 30 minutes total and is a great improvement.

 

I'd keep looking for "take offs" they'll show up eventually. I did this mod to my 2011 FX4 and on my 2006. I got one set on Ebay and one on Craigslist. I looked on Ebay the other day for the heck of it and only saw them for 2015's too.
Other models that have painted flares are FX2's and 2012-2014 FX4s w/ Appearance Pkg..
