Talking Cat Back Exhaust Recommendations?

I am looking to purchase a Cat Back exhaust system for my 2012 5.0L STX. From my previous experiences with Fox body Mustangs, I'd like to buy a Flowmaster system.

I'd like an aggressive sound with minimal drone. This may be asking too much but what do you all recommend?

Thank you!

For minimal drone, just about anything other than Flowmaster haha. Those things drone like no other. Borla is hands down the best sounding muffler out there, least drone of all the major brands, but pricey. Magnaflow is a compromise between the two on drone, but I'd just go ahead and get the Borla, budget pending.

FMs don't sound as good on these new trucks as they did the ole 5.0s, but it's hard to make any American V8 sound bad. Straight-through muffler design, versus chambered, is the way to go now, especially when drone is an issue.

Have an idea how loud you're wanting it to be? With a small muffler and the resonator deleted, these 5.0s are just about as loud as any engine I've heard with stock manifolds and cats.

People talk about drone a lot concerning the FLowmasters...but I'm running a Super 10 and even after going to a 2 cat setup, it's loud, but the drone doesn't bother me a bit. With 4 cats, I thought it was too quiet.

I'm 45 and maybe I should settle down...but I still love loud metal, loud bikes, loud cars...things that go bang...maybe I'm the wrong one to take advice from.

It does not need to wake the dead. I guess what I'd like would be considered moderate, but I want better sound than stock. What Borla system do you recommend?

I'd probably do the 19" ProXS for a nice rumble that isn't obnoxious. Drone should be pretty minimal with that as well. The 14" ones are cheaper as would be on the louder side. That's for just cutting the stock muffler out and slapping a new one in. If you want a whole kit, I'll have to look at what exactly they have for you.

But like Simply, I like it ear-splittingly loud, so my assessment may be skewed. Long tubes, no cats, and a 10" Borla made for Roush on my 06.

Opinions will vary by taste and budget. Huge fan of Magnaflow because it's perfectly balanced for me. Aggressive, but not obnoxious sound with a pleasant interior sound. No droning. I've toured their R&D facility in SoCal when they used my truck as a prototype. Nearly five years later, I still love the throaty rumble.

The Roush exhaust kit sounds incredible on these trucks. Definitely the one I want when I buy one.

Like EsJayEs said, the Magnaflow is a great balance of price, quality, sound, and looks. They are full stainless so you don't have to worry about bad weather or salty roads destroying the system in a yeah like some of the cheap stuff that's out there.

We can certainly hook you up with a deal on any of the options, just let us know.

I've got a Magnaflow system that I love, I've also heard the borla exhaust on other set ups and it sounds pretty good.

A friend of mine really likes the "Corsa" system on his truck (not a Ford). Has anyone installed a Corsa system on their 5.0L F150?

I went with Magnaflow on mine and I swapped out the 18" that comes with it for a 14" and deleted the resonator. It's not so loud to attract the cops attention, but loud enough to annoy the prima donnas in their prius's when I rumble past them on the highway, I seen several actually roll up their windows when I go by. That just makes my day. My neighbors hate it tho, especially when I fire it up at 4:30 in the morning going to work.

From the ones I've heard in person on 5.4s, I don't like them. They have a hollow/raspy/exotic sound that isn't "old school muscle car rumble" like. All depends on what you like, I just like a really grumbly, deep sound.

That video, though not doing it justice I'm sure, sounds kinda weird actually. Raspy sounding when he takes off.

I went with the Borla S-Type, but it might not be aggressive enough for you compared to what you had on your Mustang. It is reasonably load when you are on the throttle, but almost unnoticable while at cruising speeds. It has no drone at all.

Good luck with your selection.
