2009 F150 Tire Wear Issues
2009 F150 Tire Wear Issues
I have a 2009 F150 FX4
My problem is I'm wearing out tires after 20-25K Miles. I went through the stock tires in 20K miles and the most recent tires at about 25K, My local dealer suggested a Hankook tire for better wear but they didn't last either. I don't do much off-roading so I'm not really concerned about a heavy off road capable tire, I just need a tire that will last longer. The most recent set of tires lasted just over a year and three months.
Is anyone else having tire wear issues. They have a good consistent wear between all 4 tires.
Thanks.

I have 29778 miles on my stock Pirelli Scorpion tires and just by looking at them I would say they are a little bit more than half worn. Tires are rotated every 7500 miles or less - use a different set for winter.
I drive all rural mountain paved roads - all hills and turns.

Before the last tire change also with a 4x4 '09 ,I asked many about tires -dealers, mechanics, drivers . They all said they never last as long as the makers claim. They also said the major wear factor is the road conditions !!! Some of the roads around here are terrible .The biggest victim is the work truck with constant heavy loads .With that you are lucky to get 20,000 miles they said !
I ended up with Cooper AT3 tires . Performance , including snow ,rain ,dry etc was very good and wear has been acceptable .So I'll stick with AT3 and work hard to avoid bad sections by driving around potholes even by driving in the opposite lane !

Tires don't last as long as makers claim, but they don't last 1/3 - 1/2 as long as they claim either. If tread wear is even and you keep them at proper pressure, rotate them, and don't drive on crappy roads, I can only point at super aggressive driving. I'd try good Michelins and see how those do.
I was averaging 60,000 + miles on a set of tires with my 97 F150 and I replaced them with lots of tread left before the wear markers.. They just simply lost acceptable traction for my taste.. (gravel would still get stuck in the treads..)
I went thru 3 sets of them too! Put my last set on and then traded it in for the 13! DOH...
What kind of driving do you do? What kind of roads? When did you have an alignment done?

My last two set of factory Michelins had shoulder cracks at 40,000 to 42,000 miles. That is with factory pressure setting, rotations and terrible cement roads.
High mileage rating = stiff sidewall = an uncomfortable ride.
