Can you add backup camera to 2014 F150 w/4.2" sync screen

I have a 2014 F150 with the 4.2" Sync screen and recently a friend of mine also bought a 2014 F150 and his has the backup camera and it displays on his 4.2" Sync screen (non touch version).

I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just purchase the factory rear emblem/backup camera and if it would be plug and play simple to install and get it to work on my 4.2" screen?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've been seriously thinking of adding a back-up camera to my '09 FX4. I have the touch screen NAV however.

I'm looking at this as it looks to be totally plug and play for mine. It says in the comments that it will work with any screen that has yellow A/V input port.

Not sure what model that is , but look for the new model, as the 2011-2013's are notorious for connection issues (the software is built into the camera module) . Had mine replaced. POS. They should be relatively easy to install. By the looks of that kit. since their is no harness already run, your ziptieing about 25ft up to the center console.

I'm glad (or not so glad) to hear that. I thought that kit would plug into a factory harness at both ends. I wouldn't want to run 25' of cable as you said. I think I'll skip it as I don't really need it anyway.

I asked a question on that vendor page if there was a .pdf installation manual so I could see how it was installed - never received a response. Strike one.

Nice.

I don't know if my Sync screen has yellow A/V inputs in the back or not. So I don't know if it would work or not.

Does anyone else have any experience with adding the factory backup camera to the 2014 F150 XLT that did not come with it factory installed?

My 13 XLT has the backup camera, but it's seen in the rear view mirror.. Not the 4" screen...

Plus it has the view/zoom options from the instrument panel screen and you select the options with the steering wheel buttons..

Not sure how it all ties in, but that's how mine works..

Good luck!

Mitch

Talking to Ford they say it isn't possible to install the factory back up camera unless the vehicle was ordered with it. There is no kit you can buy thru Ford. You will have to purchase each individual part and run it to a different monitor besides the factory touch screen. So all in all I would just recommend purchasing an aftermarket one and save alot of money.

FYI: I was told the same thing from Ford. Might just buy a new truck with one in it instead.

I am also interested. I called Ford and they said there is a new bulletin out for retrofitting to the existing system. I'm waiting to hear back on cost and availability. I'll keep you posted.

I've got a 2013 xlt with the display in the mirror. Would it be possible to route it to the 4.2" screen?

I have a f150 XLT st. cab. Ford wouldn't sell me the backup camera. the main harness has the wires the tail light harness dosn't I picked up the parts needed including the tail light harness. after hooking it up and having the prosser flashed it didn't work. The ford dealer that I got the parts said it would work. It could be that the wires don't go to the screen or the wrong radio or maybe I have to go to the radio menu and turn it on.
