I am always afraid that these local patches of sanding and repaint will break the concistency in the factory paint texture. I.e. those sections looking much smoother than the rest of the paint or perhaps more dimpled.

But in any case, I hope it will work out for you.

I hear you bud. I was that way on my lightning when I had to have the bumper redone. The paint on these new trucks seem so paper thin i'm not even worried about it this go around. I'll have to post up some pics after they handle the issue.

Based on a trail of rig destruction by the love of my life over the last 35 years across a wide spectrum vehicles, I can tell you that when the same paint material is used, and professionally applied, no one will tell over the life of the vehicle. She's bashed Ford, Infiniti, Toyota (several), Porsche - the only one that escaped the body shop were the Volvos.

Not sure why the Volvo's were unscathed, but I couldn't take the $1000 oil changes. When ever they went to the dealer for a oil change there was a $350 sensor somewhere that needed a day's labor to install. You'd have thought they'd throw in the oil change as a finder's fee.

Toyotas on the other hand were another story. She was hit by a runaway car during an active police chase on the freeway. It was whacked on all corners while it spun out of control hitting all sorts of things. The metallic pearl white paint was perfectly matched in the repair. This car was victimized by her on several other occasions and they did it right every time. I traded it in for $1300 over retail Kelly Blue Book price to a dealer.

Needless to say, she has ridden in the F150, but she hasn't actually driven it. "It's an awfully big rig for someone so petite, baby" is my story and I'm sticking to it for as absolutely long as I can. I may throw myself in front of the wheels if it comes down to it.

The best line I've read here in a long time.

At the end of the day, whether its covered as a warranty repair or not, Paint is a tricky thing to fix, obviously youve got 2 options, they do a blend or a repaint, blending is difficult to the best of body shops, and i would highly suggest against any metal body panel being repainted as body shop cure temps are half that of factory temps.

Sorry, third option would be to touch it up yourself.

Curious to this thread as I just purchased a 2014 FX4 5.0 Blue Flame with a huge paint defect in the door. It was a strip across the drivers door that wasn't painted blue but then they clear coated it. Currently the dealer is attempting to repaint and blend but I will be curious as to how it all turns out. Kind fops me off because I drove 200 miles to purchase it and I have had to drive back to the dealer 3 times.

I just bought a new 2014 FX4 in Blue Flame off a lot 1200km's away. I will arrive in just a couple of hours, I really hope the paint is good or else it's going to be an ordeal.

You do not have to take it back to the dealer that sold the truck to you. Any dealer can fix warranty claims.

Whoever told you that is full of bs. It should be covered by Ford if it's still under warranty. In my case the dealership staff I bought my truck from was very awesome and wanted me to be happy with my purchase. I really hope this all works out for you, I know how extremely disappointing this is for you.
