Anyway to know what version of the PCM/TCM software your running?
Anyway to know what version of the PCM/TCM software your running?
Hi guys,
After doing a battery reset of the Ecoboost, I am still only seeing 15mpg average in the 2012 Ecoboost 2WD Lariat.
My build date is 12/2011.
Is there a way to see what software version you have running in the PCM?
Thanks!

FoMoCo's IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) tool should be able to display that information.

^^^ That only gets you the Box Code a.k.a Catchword for the PCM. That info is on the sticker on the PCM already. A Box Code can contain many different Strategy Codes if it's ever been reflashed. But if it's a 'virgin' the Box Code will map directly to a specific strategy.
For the Strategy Code 7-character *.HEX filename ( s/w revision) you can pull it with a flash programmer, call a custom tuning vendor, or SCT Tech Support and ask VERY nicely (supply the Box Code), post yer Box Code and perhaps one of those nice vendors will see it and respond. Some folks actually have the IDS system at home - they could also tell you. Or - visit a Dealer and beg, lol.
Got a relative / friend / neighbour with an Edge, CS/CTS, X2, X3, SF3, Livewire, X4, etc? That would be the fastest no-cost method. Don't know what AutoDrone or UnAdvanced scan tools that they use for ''free' code pulls are capable of. You could ask.
In any case post up yer Box Code (three letters and a number - e.g. "PKY8"). I'll see what I can do.
good luck

Thanks guys! I;ll get the box code this afternoon.
I have owned the truck since 32K miles. It has 60K on it now. I have never had it reflashed (or more specifically know if it has ever been reflashed).
Chris
Looks like this:

It's the software Part # - which corresponds to a specific Strategy Code.
That's why pulling the strategy right from the PCM with the aforementioned tools is the most accurate and direct route to the info you seek.
Having said all of that, the original link good ol' Hagar ( oops, I mean Joe, lol) posted will indeed give you the s/w Part # for yer Unflashed PCM Box Code. If that is sufficient for you, then yer done. Else, you'll need to get the HEX code...
EDIT - just FYI - yer TCM is integrated into yer PCM - no separate module ( only the '09's and '10's were separate)

Ok.. it looks like the box code is XDZ2. So im not sure what I can do with those right now...since nothing on those pictures correspond to any of the catch words or part numbers on the link for a 2012 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost. There is a XDZ8 catch word on there.

There was also this stuck under the PCM cover...

Here is the copy/paste from the link..
Latest Software Part Number Information
Determine the latest Software Part Numbers for emission-related modules by selecting Vehicle, Model Year, and Engine Size from the dropdown menus below, then click SUBMIT.

If you exhaust the alternatives listed previously, I'll try to get a strategy - no guarantees it's correct though, since you do not have exact service history ( .e.g. could have been reflashed ).
I suppose I should have asked this at the beginning - WHY do you (think you) need this code for? It's not as if you have a choice which s/w revision to run.

I've searched on the internet, forums, tsb's, etc etc and can't find any definitive answers as to why the mpg is so low, so this is one of those last ditch efforts to make sure its running with the latest sw version.
goose chase?

Hi. Yer welcome! No worries, I'm learnin' too.
Okay - I was just informed by a very helpful and knowledgeable feller that you may want to try the next tool down on that same Motorcraft site - the link called "Module Build Data (As built)". You will need to plug in your VIN. Give it a shot.
